Cheap 4:3 Tablet That Can Handle Flash Well > 10 inch

Hi guys,

I'd just like to gather some OzB power here. My grandma loves to play this flash based Mahjong game and she's using a 2 yrs old Android tablet which crashes all the time. I am looking for a replacement that is

  • At least 10"
  • Preferably 4 by 3 ratio
  • x86 Windows Tabs are ideal but I guess a stable Android build could also do the job
  • I don't mind Chinese brands

TIA!

If you want stability you're pretty much stuck with Windows. Flash is not officially supported in Android as of ICS (4.0.x) and rather buggy in Lollipop (5.x) — fullscreen is completely broken in Firefox Mobile there and it does not work at all in other browsers AFAIK.

I don't know how demanding your game is, but if you want cheap you'll probably end up with an Atom Z3745 variant. They're decently powerful.

    • It's not demanding at all. I think even a Z2xxx atom would handle it with ease.

Surely there's a Mahjong game in the appstore that's as good if not better?

It'd be worth paying a few dollars even!
Factory reset the existing tablet. Install the app and you just saved $50 or more.

    • Thanks dude. I might try resetting the tablet but I doubt it makes any difference because there nothing installed on it.

Well, as in asking a 80 years old lady to pick up a new game; it's just not gonna happen :p.

There must be tens if not hundreds of Mahjong apps.
The rules are the same so the mechanics can't be too dissimilar.

  • PIPO W3F maybe? It's not 4:3 but rather 8:5 aspect ratio, (1920 x 1200).

And it is rather cheap at $130 USD. You can get it at Gearbest (but shipping could take a while). or else try Geekbuying or Banggood.

Thanks that looks pretty decent but I think the high res screen is going to be a waste. Any other Chinese tabs with the a 4:3 or 8:5 screen that I can save another 50 or so?

      • that I can save another 50 or so?

Another $50 would make it less than $100, which is a bit hard to find. I've never seen a Windows tablet in the 10" range that sell for less than a hundred.

Maybe a Chuwi Vi10 would suit.

        It's a lesser resolution: 1366 x 768.

        $121 USD.

You are not saving that much. I can't find any windows 10 inch tablets (with 2GB RAM and a Z3000 series processor) for any less than $120 USD. IF you can, then good find, but I think this is pretty much one of the cheapest 10 inch windows tabs released so far.

        • Yeah, you are probably right. I can even settle with less CPU/RAM but the 10 inch 4:3 is really hard to find.

      • I've got you also get 1year 365 office that you could use. I love mine, only thing battery could be slightly better.

Also think of weight it's 600 grams, I'd go for an 8" to limit weight.

  • Teclast X98 Air III? Same 4:3 screen as iPad but possible to run Windows. A bit more expensive though.

    • Yup, I knew about that one and it's overkilled

    • Probably best to stay away from the Air III if you're planning on installing Windows. There are licensing issues and setting up dual boot is tedious.

  • Can you download the Flash blob and run it locally?
    eg using something like this
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vkrun.flas…

    • Gonna try it out. Any flash player that supports touch controls?
