Europe - June/July 2016 Tips - Jetstar/Alitalia/Etihad

So I just got return flights to Europe for late June to late July 2016 for $1,340 return for the busy European summer season.

MEL - SIN on Jetstar using price beat guarantee against Scoot: $269.10

SIN - AUH - FRA; VCE - AUH - MEL on Etihad/Alitalia for $1070.00 ($SGD1088.70, use 28 Degrees credit card for purchase through Etihad's website). SIN-FRA;VCE-MEL is all on one ticket as well, which is handy.

The Jetstar flight gets in at 4.50pm, the Etihad flight leaves at 8.10pm. Though, I was a bit scared of trying for the short layover, so turned it into a two day stop over in Singapore.

Considering that the other flights I could find for that period were all in the $1,600 price range on Chinese airlines or $1,900-2,100 on European airlines interlining with Jetstar from Australia (and even more on all other airlines - QF/EK starts at about $2,500), I'm pretty chuffed.

As always, it seems the Australia tax bites and getting out of Australia is always the most expensive part of any trip.

Hope the tip helps someone!

Nice one, did this 2 years ago at a similar price. Flying out of SIN to Europe, the other half didn't appreciate the added stopover in AUH though - other than that an OK flight.

  • Nice work! I seriously considered doing the same for a recent trip.
But I honestly think it's only worthwhile if you are doing a stopover. Flying with LCC's and adding time/complexity isn't always worth it, especially if you have to stay overnight anywhere. Living in a capital city certainly frees up your options somewhat as you're not limited by the extra hop that we have.
Since we live in Tassie we find that flying with Qantas/etc adds very little extra cost when flying to USA/Europe.
That said, for Asia/South Pacific we usually fly as cheaply as possible.

  • Thanks for the tips :-)
Will keep it in mind for my future trips :-)
