Recommend Me a Wireless Router with Gbit Ethernet under $100

Hi OzBargain community, lend me your wisdoms. I need one (or maybe two) wireless router that I will install at my granny flat / home office (or maybe another one at the back of the house). Currently it's running an old Billion 7800N that's on its last legs with wonky wireless. Budget less than $100 including postage. Probably need it soon.

  • Those will be mostly running in bridge mode, where my DHCP server runs on a NetGear R7000 next to my cable modem.
  • Definitely need Gigabit ethernet, as I usually work with ethernet connected.
  • 802.11ac might be good to have, but 802.11n is good enough. 5GHz AC has shorter range as well so probably not that useful, as I need the wireless to cover my backyard so I can use Spotify while mowing the lawn :)

I am thinking of previous-gen top models rather cheaper current gen models. Something like

  • NetGear WNDR3800 ($78 from MSY)
  • TP-Link TL-WDR4300 ($89 from MSY and eBay)

Alternatively TP-Link Archer C2 with AC750, however I heard those cheaper AC-wireless models are not good.

Which one should I get?

  • If your wireless is getting flaky, you need can easily fix that by replacing the PSU.

Trust me, thats all you need to do.

  • What about Ubiquiti stuff?

They're wireless AP's rather than routers though.

    • Neither have gbit ethernet nor under $100…

  • I've had a WNDR3700v2 for quite some time and it has been flawless. My vote is on the WNDR3800.

  • Is this a test ?

    TP-LINK TD-W8970

    • That's a modem router isn't it? I don't need the modem part.

      • The TP link WDR4300 looks the best.
