CostCo and American Products

Hi :)

This is a question for those of you that have been to CostCo in Melbourne (still waiting on you, Sydney!).

Does CostCo here in Australia stock American items? As an example, when I was in the US and Canada, I saw they sold bulk packs of Bicycle playing cards, presumably because Bike's are the most common cards in the US. Does CostCo Australia stock things like playing cards, and if so, are they Bike's or are they some brand from around here?

Yes, I'm trying to get a hold of a bunch of Bike's without having to pay crazy shipping fees from the US ;)

Thanks!

They do sell packs of playing cards but I can't remember what brand they were. Most of the products they sell are "American" products but there were fair bit of Aussie ones as well.

They are bike brand. I was at a recent conference where they had a magician wandering around doing card tricks and I saw he had bike brand cards. I asked if he got them from Costco. He mentioned he did and he purchased 600 decks as it was over 90% cheaper buying bioke brand cards there as opposed to where he used to buy his cards from.

600 decks! He must have problems making those cards reappear! ;-)

Yeah well you should see the 600 rabbits that he buys every month!

  • I had this feeling they would stock American brands.
Now to get myself down to Melbourne. Here's hoping for some $1 flights from Sydney to Melbourne ;)

    Thanks for the info guys!

elguapo: 600 decks? Would you say that this magician has a plethora of decks?

    • I just would like to know if you know what a plethora is. I would not like to think that a person would tell someone he has a plethora, and then find out that that person has no idea what it means to have a plethora.

To elaborate, this magician guy used a sharpie pen to mark the card selected by the punters so they could be sure he wasn't scamming them. Needless to say he goes through 4 or 5 decks a gig. He was using cheap decks but switched to the superior bike brand cards after he saw what he could get them a Costco for.

      • still, he could keep the cards that never got marked i would think. Surely the same cards werent marked in all 600 decks.

      • El Guapo, I know that I, Random Username, do not have your superior intellect and education, but could it be that once again, you are angry at something else, and are looking to take it out on me?

Bike's aren't superior. Well, not the ones you'd get from CostCo. Bike's are used by magicians because they're the most popular brand of cards in the US. You can get them for US $1 per deck from Walmart.

The most common Bike's are generally average quality cards. The Cartamundi's that have been listed here on OzBargain on the other hand are exceptional quality. I use them constantly and find that they last much longer than Bike's ever would.

Just a little info from your OzBargain card maniac :)

      • If the cards were marked on the face side of the card, the deck could be given away as a present after the gig. What's a few bucks compared to the labour to weed out the marked cards.
