New Traffic App for Sydney and Melbourne Commuters

Hi OzBargainers,

Today I released a new iOS traffic app for Sydney and Melbourne commuters.
Roadmap is your commute assistant to help you avoid traffic. View real-time traffic conditions for both Sydney and Melbourne, easily compare routes with the beautiful traffic heat map, receive personalised alerts about traffic incidents and quickly glance at traffic conditions nearby with the built in today widgets.

Why should I care?

1, Well designed alternative to government road apps LiveTraffic and VicRoads. Roadmap Lite is free without ads and offers powerful features such as alerts.

2, Roadmap feels right at home on the iOS platform. Supports push notifications, today widget and even has support for force touch on the iPhone 6s

3, No need to refresh. Roadmap automatically updates when there is new traffic information

4, Easily compare routes and see traffic incidents that affect your route

You can download the free version. (No ads, no in app purchases) here:
https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/roadmap-lite-sydney-melbourn…

EDITED:
OzBargain members can get Roadmap (pro) for free. Just send me a PM and I'll send you a promo code.

You're in the wrong place if you only released on Apple platform….

Generally app developers test the waters with iOS first. I didn't want to attempt a multiple platform app at the cost of quality. I know there are Android and Windows Phone Users on this forum. However iOS is still the dominant platform for apps. Other platforms are not off the table. In fact I think what Microsoft is doing with Windows 10 universal apps is very interesting. And would probably be my preferred choice if I was to make Roadmap for another platform.

    Downloaded to check it out.
    What is the catch?
What.is the difference between lite and pro? Thanks.

    • Pro enables you to perform trips which highlights the congestion and traffic incidents along those route. Say you wanted to go from Redfern to North Sydney. The pro version will highlight the congestion on the Sydney Harbour Bridge vs taking the Harbour Tunnel. Pro also includes the today widgets for travel times to favourite destinations and nearby traffic incidents.

        Hi There,

I cannot PM you because you have not turn your conversation on. I therefore cannot PM you and request for the code. You need to turn on your Conversation to allow anyone to inbox you.

        • Should be working now. Thanks

      • hands up. count me in please.

      • By the time you reply to my message, I properly wont be able to communicate with you as I have night shift. Thanks you for the opportunity for the code, if you are able to OM me a code, I will greatly appreciate it.

Good luck with the app and hope it takes off.

      • Can't seem to PM you, but yes I'm in for this as well. Thanks in advance!

  • I don't understand why I wouldn't just use google maps with traffic updates. Sell it to me!

Who is your data source for traffic updates?

    • Roadmap is designed specifically for getting traffic information.
Google Maps is an excellent Navigation App. However because Google (and Apple) has to cover many countries, they lacks detail. Traffic incidents in Roadmap contain a lot more information. Like what lanes are closed, what directions of traffic is affected. For Road Works it contains schedules and speed limits. Roadmap also includes special events like the Footy which both Google Maps and Apple Maps don't seem to display.
Also Roadmap is deeply integrated with iOS. It has today widgets and supports push notifications to receive updates on traffic incidents you subscribe too.

As for the source. The traffic incidents come from Transport NSW and Victoria Roads. The same data source as Google Maps and Apple Maps. However extra effort is taken to parse these feeds, especially regarding Victoria's feed which is messy. I also worked closely with Transport NSW to integrate their own real-time traffic API which is combined with Apple's congestion information.

      • Sounds good :)

  • I can't PM you (your settings prevent it), but if you can PM me a code/link, I can receive it. Thanks.

    • mmm, received a few PM from users. Please try again, I can't directly PM as I'm a new user.

  • Id be interested. But live in Brisbane :(

    • Queensland Traffic is in the works, however its not quite ready yet. I would be happy to add you as a beta tester if you like through TestFlight. If your interested just PM me.

  • I'm currently using Waze for avoiding traffic/incidents commuting. Is this app more like a traffic report to look at before leaving? Thanks

    • Yes thats correct. Its designed for quick interactions before leaving, its most helpful when deciding what route to take. Roadmap can share trips with Waze, Google Maps and Apple Maps though.
