Zoolz 1TB Storage on Cloud (Lifetime Subscription, 2 Users) - US $65 (~ AU $90.50)

50

From their website:

"When we say lifetime, we do not only mean that you only pay once, we also mean that your data is stored on the ultra-secure Amazon AWS servers for a lifetime. With Zoolz cloud backup, you can back up all your hard-disks, external and network drives, delete the data off to save space, and never worry about your data ever getting deleted from the cloud. "

    Possibly cheaper here @ US$39?

Would love to see the T&Cs for this - the 'lifetime' part seems a little ambiguous…. ;-)

Once those nanobots and artificial organs become popular, this deal could be getting better and better.

      • My concern would be if they start to have funding issues, they might use killer nanobots to lower their costs…

Sounds attractive. Anybody uses this service before?

Unless it was actually offered by Amazon then the "lifetime" offer is meaningless.

What is the chance that this company will even be around in 5 years? If they don't continue to pay Amazon then you lose the service.

It's $7.17 here: https://aws.amazon.com/glacier/pricing/ (except you don't get their apps)

I would stick with one of the larger providers especially if I was going to use them as the sole repository of my data. I remember trying a service called Bitcasa a few years ago that offered unlimited cloud storage for $100 a year, after awhile they discontinued the unlimited plan and changed to a tiered system with $99/year for 1TB and $999/year for 10TB but said that all current users will be grandfathered on their original unlimited plan; a couple more months and they reversed their position and just moved all users to the tiered system.

It's pretty much never a good idea to go for these lifetime subscriptions especially when the service doesn't even own the servers they use.

So how does a company which has ongoing costs (storage, staff, etc) offer a lifetime deal?
Answer: It's their very short lifetime, they take your money, close the business down & take your data & money on a holiday.

Exactly. Take icetv for example. No plan for long term, then bitch when it all falls apart.
