  • Damn! This deal is good with the free headsets! I need to get a christmas gift, but i'll be damned if Telstra does a bigger price drop than 20%.

  • +4

It seems the HTC 510 comes with Bose MIE2 headsets instead. https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/htc…

  • +3

Brought the Telstra Buzz for $63.20 worth it for the Monster headphones I suppose.

    • +11

Did $63.20 like the Telstra Buzz?

      • +2

        what?

        • +1

          lol
Brought = past tense of bring. So I'm asking, given that you brought the Telstra Buzz for this mystery person called $63.20.. did (s)he like it?

I'm just pulling your leg. I know you meant bought.

      • Haha

      • +2

        but who was phone?

      • +1

But what if Buzz brought $63.20?

    • +1

      Was it a BYO?

  • +1

Yeah the Telstra Buzz comes with the headphones as well. $63.20 + 5gb of data and $129 retail price for headphones makes it probably as good as the Y550 $40 HN deal with $50 vodafone prepaid sim pack.

  • +1

    $5 unlock for the buzz.

    • The buzz doesn't support 900 3g band though. So wouldn't be that good on Optus or vodafone where they use 900 towers. Unless you unlock it to use on other Telstra resellers.

      • Great, I didn't want to use optus or vodaphone, I bought it to use aldi

      • Most newer base stations with Vodafone use the 850MHz band for 3G (especially after the Vodafail incident). Only Optus uses the 900MHz band widely.

        • Yes most areas use 850, won't help when you are in an area with 900. My local Vodafone is 900, so if I blindly just went with the theory that most areas have 850 I'll be right, then I would have a useless phone. Just like people unlocking to work on optus and finding out the hardway.

      • +1

Does it support the up coming VoLTE (4G voice)? then you wont need the 3G 900?

        • Haha you are funny, Vodafone doesn't even have 4g in my area. I get Nbn before Vodafone offering 4g.

  • Cheers OP ;)

  • Awesome, the only thing I need is a headphone!

  • +6

I think this deal is only of value if you either need one of these phones or need the headphones. Otherwise False economy folks

    • Why can't we have both?

      • +1

Even better if you need both. But who am i to judge, i have bought many a thing to which i have no real need.

    • +1

      Ozbargainer talking about false economy?

  • Is the Buzz compatible with amaysim?

    • Amaysim is Optus, so it's partly compatible - only 2100MHz 3G, not compatible with 900MHz 3G. This means you'll get reduced coverage in country areas as well as indoors.

Go for the Lumia 640 if you're going to use it on the Optus or Vodafone networks.

      • +2

I would say avoid. relying on 2100mhz is pretty horrible.

Initially had a 900/2100mhz handset and used it on Telstra (no 900mhz). The phone was close to useless. Not sure if Optus' 2100mhz is any better.

        • It's worse on Telstra, since they shutdown the 3GIS network and rely almost solely on 850MHz for 3G.

Even though the Buzz is compatible with the APT700MHz (Band 28) LTE frequency, it still needs to drop down to 3G to make calls, so it won't work properly.

        • Well I'm pretty much getting the phone free with the headphones, so coverage is not a concern as I won't be relying on it. Just as long as it can do the basic functions it should be fine, otherwise I would switch providers.

        • @shot: The Lumia is an all-round better phone, the buzz isn't that good.

        • @happychappy1: Aight, I'll keep that to consideration, undecided still.

        • @happychappy1: says you. Plenty say its a great phone for the price.

        • @Davros: For the price. But if you're looking for a phone that you will use on any other network, then the Buzz isn't that good.

Plus, the Lumia has a Clearblack IPS LCD display, which is 720p - so the sunlight visibility will be significantly better on the Lumia than the Buzz.

In terms of app support, it there will be more on the Buzz, especially for Google services, but it will also be limited by its 8GB (but significantly less) built in storage. On the Lumia, you can easily install most apps (+offline maps) onto the SD card, which is more difficult to do on the Buzz.

As a phone phone, the Lumia 640 is much better.

        • @happychappy1:

          M… but it's a Nokia. I mean Microsoft.

        • @googleyahoo69:

Also if you care about offline naps you are better with Android. Even with the buzz.

        • @Ronnnie:

Not sure if this one's offline map comes with voice.

My most recent experience with Nokia is that… i couldnt even find netbanking apps for wbc, cba and anz. Not sure if this has changed.

        • @googleyahoo69:
          Here Maps is on Android.

        • +1

          @happychappy1: Again, your opinion
          Many would and do disagree.

Also try comparing like for like, not $63 product with $143 product
Its as stupid and as pointless as rubbishing a Falcon because a Mercedes is better.

        • @Davros:

          M… Mustang…

        • @Davros: If you compared similarly priced, then it would be the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. Even spec for spec, the Lumia 640 is better then that phone - bigger battery, bigger and higher resolution display, and especially the ability to install to a large SD card, which is lacking on the Android side. The only thing that would be lacking is the apps, so you need to evaluate whether it's feasible for you. For me, I have both Android and Windows so it's fine.

        • @happychappy1:

I'd rather buy both and have some change. Get the buzz with the headphones with this deal. Then pick up the Lumia 640 for $30 during Black Friday sales. :D

        • +1

@happychappy1: "If you compared similarly priced, then it would be the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime."

          Simple maths alludes you obviously.
The Samsung Core Prime is $135.20
          The Buzz is $63
          They are not similarly priced

As I said, your comment is as stupid and as pointless as rubbishing a Falcon because a Mercedes is better.

        • @Davros:

Have to agree with you Davros. I am buying the Buzz because its much better deal… The 640 and Samsung are over double the price.

        • -2

@Davros: I was comparing the Samsung with the Microsoft phone.

  • Can anyone recommend the Samsung Galaxy A3? Thinking of getting it for Mum

    • +1

I'm thinking of getting it for my mum too. I've seen it in store and it's very responsive. Looks great as a christmas gift. Only issue is, they don't sell it in the white phone. Harvey Norman was selling both colours for $268 unlocked, most recently.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/216979

    • Its body is metal(aluminum), which feels great on the hands(almost good as iphone or HTC I reckon). Otherwise, Samsung Galaxy J series is much better in terms of price per specs.

      • J series, as in J1? J1 isn't very good, although being cheaper. What are the chances of a price drop of the A3 before Christmas. Im really unsure whether to bite the bullet and buy one now.

    • +2

      Thanks for the help guys

  • Telstra never lets me buy anything on their store… always rejects?

  • +1

yeah got errors too when checking out :( "There was a connectivity issue while processing your request and we can't confirm if the payment was made. Please check your bank/credit card statement to see if the payment was processed." What does this mean?

    • +1

Same here. Pretty sure it didn't go through (no confirmation email either) but will wait 'til the morning and check credit card statement before re-ordering. Don't want two phones….

    • I tried 3 times and finally go through, and yes, no confirmation email.

  • Is cashrewards paid on the purchase of the phone?

The cashrewards page links me to the 30 dollar sim pack so not 100% sure.

  • Are these Prepaid recharges
    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/30-…
available half price at Coles and Woolies or other places too, or just Telstra Website?

Really wanna get one or two using Amex shop small offer 2 Prepaids $30 get $10 refund from Amex offer
Do news agents sell telstra recharges (just recharge not new kit)

    • $10 back via cashreward on $30 starter pack. These are NOT recharges.

  • No Sony E4G in the online deals..but they sell them in store? I swap between Telstra/ Optus in a regional area so the Buzz & Y5 wont cut it.

    • Hmm.. good question!

  • how much to unlock these phones? especially from Bagman

Samsung Core Prime $135.20 (was $169)
    Samsung Galaxy A3 $223.20 (was $279)

  • +2

The Lumia 640 also is over double the price of the buzz and cost more to unlock. Other negatives to Note Windows AppStore is poor and most people can't find all the apps they need and the apps that do exist aren't as good of quality as Android ones. The browser is poor with no alternatives. By all means if you wish to move from Android to windows phone than install this app first to see how many apps you use are already on wp.

  • Which one is the best to get?

  • Damn! I'm flying overseas on the coming weekend, so unlikely I'll get the delivery in time…

  • NVM, ordered, 2 business days they say…

fingers crossed, I'll be receiving stuff till the very last working day I'm in Australia…

    • +1

Just delivered to Brisbane from Sydney in 20 hours :-)

  • Ordered Buzz + headphones ($63.20) at lunchtime yesterday before this deal via CashRewards. CashRewards has tracked purchase & $10 had been added to the pile of as yet unconfirmed cash back.

    Just received both in Brisbane.
Headphones look impressive. Certainly would cost more than phone. Appears to be same as HN are clearing at $129 :-) Leaving in box for moment, HN photos are same as on box

Will be mainly using the Buzz for Telstra data on 4GX. So won't bother paying to unlock.

    • Tempting but the headphones are subject to 'While stocks last'. I think I might be too late.

      • Just received my order. No headphones.

        • When did you order?

        • @cheesesticks: Yesterday at 11:30am Melbourne time.

        • @unity1: wow if you didn't get them I doubt anyone who purchased from the posting of this deal will get them :/

        • @cheesesticks: I'm contacting online chat to find out. Infidel ordered after me and received his

        • @unity1: please update us if you dont mind :)

        • +1

@msmhw: Sure. I was told they would sent it out to me. So must still be stock available.

        • @unity1: oh good new, I made my order last night so I hope I get it. thanks for the update.

        • Ordered mine last night (24th) and the receipt definitely includes the headphones, so I'll be quite disappointed if it doesn't come with them.

          https://www.dropbox.com/s/gvds4ewa1yorzrk/Screenshot%202015-…

If they chose not to send the headphones out, but keep showing the offer, that'd be highly deceptive marketing. Seriously, they could have run out on day one but keep this promo going for the whole year…

        • @Bunnycat: Yes, my email looked exactly the same, but the paperwork I received with the handset made no mention of the bonus headphones.

        • @Bunnycat: but if you read the bottom part it stays depends on the stock availability

        • +1

@msmhw: sure does. But what is stopping them from running this promo till next Christmas (with handy disclaimer) if there was no stock?
They are still advertising the phones with the bonus, so it would be low in the extreme if they have already run out, yet not pulled the promotion web pages.
To be honest, I don't expect it to be a problem. The deal hasn't even cracked 60 votes yet, so I wouldn't have thought it'd be 'ozbargained'.
In my experience it is quite normal for companies to split deliveries. Ie receive the headphones seperate from the phone.

    • Did any of the paper work inside the delivery satchel mention anything about the headphones?

      • Did you guys get any email about the order despatch with a Tracking no, if yes when did you get the email sent. Is there a way to check the status of the order with the Online Order no ?

        • Yes, look out for an email titled: Update on your Telstra Online Order

        • @unity1: You placed order at 11-30AM yesterday, when did you receive the 2nd email, at around 5~7PM ?

        • @regenade: just before 7pm

        • @unity1: Cool got an email already :)

      • I'm back… Paperwork with order listed headphones

TPREPAID 4GX BUZZ WHT + MONSTER DNA

Makes it sound like my (white) phone is infected with monster DNA.

  • Done, got the Buzz. Heck I spend more that that on coffee in a week.

  • +1

We're getting $130 worth of hardware for $65 if we get the Buzz. If someone is looking for a backup phone and a headset to give as a bday/xmas prezzie, then this deal is pretty good! So that's about $33 for each item. Would I pay $33 for a phone? To use as a backup? Maybe. Would I pay $33 for Monster headphones? Perhaps. Do I need them? NO.
So I'm not going to buy. :)

    • +2

i followed your logic and ended up getting the Buzz even though I didn't need it

      • I fought the temptation, haha! But well done, you got yourself a deal my friend!

    • +1

i ordered a buzz as well haha

    • +1

Got the buzz. Will hopefully flog the phone by itself for $40 odd and keep my $15 headset. ;-D

  • Ok, I can't post a "wanted-add" as it breaches the rules. However, I also cannot place an add in the Classified section as it says I've reached my limit, yet never posted anything in there ever??

So…lets just say I'm looking for one us Buzz upgraders who no longer wants their Huawei Y550 (as mine got stolen last week by low life scum) and I just need one to recover my backup data and move on to a 4GXBuzz.

If any good fellow fills the need to deliver a good deed I would be most grateful.

    Hopefully that doesn't breach anything..

  • Is the Cashrewards $10 cashback only limited to once per account ? Just checking as I am in the process of placing a 2nd order :)

    • I believe the bonus gift is limited to one per customer.

  • hmm ordered one just now.. hopefully will get the headphones.. otherwise do not want

  • Does the Buzz run Hearthstone? I need a cheap android to buy packs with Telstra credit.

  • Cheers, bought one last night and can confirm the headphones are on my invoice

Even thought the CashRewards is only supposed to be prepaid sim, I clicked through using the link from CR, did a search for buzz and bought the phone. Got an email this morning confirming the $10 cash back :D
