I just fixed a ghd 4.2b whose symptoms included one arm no longer heating, upon inspection it only required the replacement of a faulty heating element, thermal fuse and a tube of thermal paste to coincide with the element itself. Was only about $20 all up. I'm not sure about other ghds, but the IV is fitted with screws on its pcb rather than soldered connections, making the repair even easier.
The cord failing as described above is also another common and easily repairable fault. Unlike most tech these days and whether intentional or not, the ghd is designed in such a way that it is repairable yourself.
My Mrs said the GHD unit itself started to buzz and then stopped working, light doesn't come on any more.
My daughter did drop it before my Mrs did use it too
Anyone?
What about Cloud 9 and Glampalm brands?
Cloud 9 is considered very highly from what I can gather. I'd still try to fix it first.
Yer I will try but where do I get parts and how do I know what parts is needed?

These two sites are quite useful at helping you understand the basics and diagnose the likely problem and solution. The second one is particularly interesting, but note there are many spelling mistakes. However, it is a genuine and helpful site.
Don't automatically buy one - you might be able to fix it.
Mine started doing strange things but I worked out the cord itself had somehow broken. I sourced a new one on eBay, and my husband attached it. It's all good again, and cost me about $25 to fix.
There are places online that offer to fix it for you too. I spoke to GHD initially, and they wanted around $180 for a refurbishment, didn't even consider fixing it.
