I'm wanting to get my parents Netflix for Christmas. What's the best way for them to watch it on their TV? It needs to be fairly simple so I can set it up and leave it for them. It would be great if they could watch ABC iView and SBS on demand but it's not vital.
Netflix for Parents

I have a chromecast and a smartphone. Would using this combination, really drain the phone battery?
Well that's what I use, I haven't noticed it draining the phone battery. Your phone just sleeps after you've put on a show, you unlock it if you want to pause, fast forward etc.
I guess it depends on how savvy your parents are. My mum loves it, my dad wouldn't have a clue how to use it (my parents are in their 60's for what it's worth).
Others have mentioned Apple TV. I've never used it so can't comment on that.
I just plugged an old aTV3 into my parents TV, was the simplest solution for them.
In terms of usability I would say Apple TV. It has the simplest of remotes and powers on and off automatically. I have aging parents and getting them to use chromecast (or similiar) to stream content via a tablet or phone may be too daunting.

This. I certainly wouldn't recommend it for someone that's not sure. You'll be forever dealing with their questions :P
Could try a FetchTV box, so they have a physical remote? Or an older WDTV (not the new one with Miracast as it doesn't have Netflix support)
Go and get a Apple TV 3 plug it in and set everything up so it is logged in. Then they just need to click Netflix and select what they want to watch.
android tv box i got one from aldi recently works well has netflix iview and sbs already installed

Yep… this is what i did for my parents. They use the 2nd stream of my 2 stream account
Xbox 360 with a remote control. simplest way for tech illiterate. Has abc and sbs too.
Should be able to jag one off gumtree for $75 or less. Can resell games and controllers to recoup some costs.
Remote on ebay for $10.
Sorted.
either Xbox 360 or PS3 both work equally well for this :)
The Android boxes are great and have many more features but for someone who is new to computers / tablets etc.. i would stay away
Apple TV is awesome, but you won't be able to watch iView or SBSOnDemand unless you're mirroring it from an i-device. I believe they are planning to bring out apps for one or both of these services on the new Apple TV (the expensive fourth generation one), but I don't know when this will happen.
So you're going to encourage your parents to Netflix and chill!?
Do they have a smartphone? If so, get a chromecast. I know iView has a chromecast option.
Do they have a smart TV? There should be a netflix app in the store.
