Masters Won't Price Match Its Own eBay Store

Hi,

I bought a Westinghouse 610 fridge from masters - https://www.masters.com.au/product/100399442/westinghouse-61….

The next day there was a 10% sale on their ebay store, which would have saved me a couple hundred dollars. I contacted them, to ask about price match guarantee but was denied. Its not easy to repackage and return a fridge.

This was their reply 5 days later:

Thank you for your email.

In terms of our Price Guarantee, we also only price match with competitors, not other stores also owned by us such as our Ebay store or other Masters stores.

As a result, we would be unable to give you this requested price match. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.

That policy doesnt seem fair to me. They were selling the exact same product for 10% less through a different channel.

I do have Price Protection insurance on the card I used to make the purchase, so I might have to go down that route.

Anyone else had this argument with them before?

Are you sure it was a Masters Ebay sale, or an Ebay sale for Masters. The difference is who foots the discount bill.

  • Can you use price protection on credit card to get a refund of the difference?

Doh: Never mind, just saw you do have.

  • Don't have a credit card with price protection bu the fact something like this even exists intrigues me. I recall the ANZ card required the difference to be between $75 and $300 and the store within 25km of where you purchased the item within 21 days. It's basically a form of gambling (like most insurance).

  • Wow, that's pretty lame.

By the way, do you have much experience with "Price Protection"? Is it hard to process a claim?

    Is it faulty OP?

Can you get a competitor to pricematch the ebay price in a written quote, then use that for the discount?

    • Great idea if you have the time. Sadly the inner Ozbargain in me would see me going to quite a few stores getting the price down just to go back to Masters and get the price matched.

  • WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR CREDIT WITH MASTERS WHEN
THEY GO BELLY UP IN 2016?
    WILL NOT LAST ANOTHER YEAR

  • Most shops do this.
Target was having an offer on their own site, I walked in store asking if I could get same price as online and they said no.
I called up Myer to hold a luggage for me and asked if the price will be the same as online price, they said no as they are run by different company.

  • Strange that large companies can be so rigid when applying their policies etc. In the grand scheme of things, that would be small change to them. If they had agreed, I am sure you would feel happier and have a higher opinion of the store, and maybe more likely to purchase something from them again. And spread the word to family/friends of their goodwill. I feel your frustration.

  • In my personal experience, most of the shops don't match price with ebay store (even of competitor). Had the same experience when I purchased my new refrigerator.

    thanks for the responses.

No luck with Masters direct, still pursuing the credit card route. You're right, it leave's a little sour taste in the mouth, the couple hundred bucks i would have put towards a clothes dryer back with them. Instead i bought the dryer from another store, instead of Masters.
