Bean Bag Buying Advice

Hi all,

Does any one have advice on buying a good quality bean bag and how much to spend?
The price range is crazy, cheap ones from $20 and pricey ones around $400…
I would have thought $100 at most should be enough for a bag of beans.

I'm in Melbourne if you know of any good places or can give me any tips that would be great.

Cheers

Sorry I don't know where you can buy a good beanbag but one tip I have is watch your cat around it. Some of them think the beans have the same feeling as kitty litter. My brother in law found that one out the hard way when he sat down.

    • Gold! Thankfully we have dogs not cats.

These bags - http://www.kingkahuna.com.au are so comfortable well worth the money.

  • Be aware that the bag is (usually) the cheap bit. they beans are where they make their profit!

    • Excellent business model…I wouldn't have thought of this, thanks

you dont get the beans included most times, it's just the empty bag.

we have a LIFE! brand one, had it for a least a few years and is still fine. Not sure where my wife got it from but probably Kmart/Target or similar.

found it - it was a chocolate brown colour of this one http://www.target.com.au/p/life-tear-drop-cord-bean-bag-char…

The beans cost $12 for a volume of 100 litres
    http://www.kmart.com.au/product/100l-bean-bag-refill/681313

However, what they don't tell you on the bean's packaging is that you usually need 200l, sometimes 300 to 350 litres to completely fill an average sized bean bag. So this lounger for e.g requires 2x 100 Litres

So you may have to purchase $24 dollars worth of beans to fill your bean bag and that increases the cost to $59 dollars….

    • Thanks - good point to remember as we may get a very large one. Do you know if there is any difference between the material that beans are made from and the resulting comfort?

      • Thanks Scrimshaw,
I reckon the Beanbag place my wife bought the bags and beans from charged us in the order of $50 for beans to fill a normal size "single" bag!

From childhood experience, DON'T GET VINYL!!!
        Otherwise, no.

I'm sure I've posted on a similar question previously but I can't find it. OB and Google site: searches can't find it.

You need two bags, one inside the other so you can remove the outer bag to wash it.

You should be able to get free foam peanuts from any company that receives a lot of "fragile" shipments. We got our supply from the laptop PC distributor that supplied the organisation I worked for at the time. They had a huge covered skip full of peanuts waiting to be taken away and dumped.
