  • Is it possible to do your own installation? or do they only sell it with an installation 'package'?

    • You can get it installed yourself.

    • you can organise your own installer (cant do it yourself though)

    • You want these installed by a fridgy cause kelvinators are known to die within the warranty period and you'll want to claim your warranty.

From memory you need both a licenced Electrician and also someone licenced for Refrigerant Gas. PLenty of sparkies around but not so much for the Refrigerant.

        • They probably have an installer that they use. Harvey Norman in Sydney have a recommended installer for example.

it will be around $600 for an install.

        • Yeah I rang them this morning. My local one (Perth) want $500 for the install, $110 extra for a wall bracket and $250 extra to put it on the roof

    • You could hire someone off Gumtree - just make sure you check their License

  • +1

Install cost would typically be $500.

    • I had a look at the other posts and looks like it will be a lot more than that. :-( I will be visiting my local TGG after work tonight to get an idea about the installation costs.

    $500 sounds really cheap…

    • Depends on the install, cheapest I got quoted in Sydney was $800 a couple of years ago by a reputable place. But it only includes a certain length of piping and ducting, anything over that was extra $/m

    • Quotes I got for an install upstairs on my townhouse were anywhere between 750-1800 (for those licenced to write a electrical safety cert and handle refrigerants). As mentioned as well that usually only covers like 1m of pipes.

Generally cheaper if you aren't fussed about their licences

      • I think the Manufacturers only cover warranty if a licenced installer is used though. Fine if you only have 12m warranty etc, but for my Fujitsu it's 5 years so I didn't take the chance just to save $150-ish :)

    • yep, maybe $500 (i was charged $450 last week) if it is replacing an existing air con - meaning power , holes in walls etc are already done)

You guys over East get ripped off. Installing a small split in Perth (under 3.5kW) is around $500. Installing a large split (which needs its own power circuit) costs $600-$700. This is for a qualified installer and electrician.

  • A simple back to back install is around $500 in WA. That's for rear exiting pipework, to the outdoor unit sitting on the ground directly behind. That's for 2-3metres or piping included. Additional costs for side exit pipework and installing the outdoor unit on an external wall.

If this unit only requires a 10A power supply, the installer will connect to the closest available cable in the roofspace, else they have to run a fresh cable from the mainboard, possibly more expensive install again.

It it worth paying for a decent installer who will take the time to do things properly, as well as using the right tools, minimising damage to the plaster and cleaning up after.

    • thats super cheap, its around $650 on the coast.

  • This unit only swings up and down so beware.

Bought the Kelvinator 3.45kW Reverse Cycle Split System Inverter Air Conditioner KSV35HRE for $639.20 during the first ebay 20% off sale, got it installed by a licensed installer found via Gumtree for $425 - this is in Brisbane.

  • I have one of these above my bed. Paid about $550 installed from a Harvey Norman sale which included free install on selected units.

Unit itself is great for a bedroom.

550 installed is a really great price

  • Get an aircon tradie to quote you supply and install as a package so they make some money on the aircon unit. Some of them can get really good price from their preferred brands because they can get wholesale price after certain volume

  • Let's say you buy this unit at TGG and organise your own install by qualified electrician. If the unit fails within warranty who do you call? I bet the installer will want to be paid if you call him out and its the unit that failed and I'm sure the manufacturer will charge a service call if they come out to repair and find the installation is at fault.

Prob best to pay for an installer to supply the unit. Also for those that get HN/TGG to install how is the installation shown on the receipt? I wouldn't be surprised if they separate it to wash their hands of it in the event of failure.

  • I got an equivalent Convair installed for $500 12 months ago in Melbourne

    • Where did you buy the unit from?
