  • If I wasn't concerned with appearance, quality or support, I'd get this:
    http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/kogan-blu-ray-player-bdlive-ful…

    • I would be more inclined to buy a house-brand blu ray player from Dick Smith or something like that — at a cheaper price.

It's not a bad bargain, though. Having spoken to some of Kogan's suppliers directly, this would work out to roughly cost price.

      • Like this one?

The huge drawcard for the Kogan is that it is region-free. Is there a cheaper region-free blu-ray player?

        • Ah, I didn't actually consider the region free.

Apparently the AMTC plays region A/B, which isn't too bad, I guess:

A/1: The Americas, and their dependencies, East Asia (except China and Mongolia), Southeast Asia and Japan.
B/2: Africa, Southwest Asia, Europe (except Belarus, Russia and Ukraine), Oceania, and their dependencies.

          You'd miss out on:
Central Asia, East Asia (China and Mongolia only), South Asia, Eastern Europe, and their dependencies.

  • Kogan uses LG panels, correct?

    • I believe it varies from unit to unit, they used to be CMO or Sammy panels.

Any1 had any experience with Kogan products? 47" LG panel for $1299 delivered seems too good to be true…

  • +2

Kogan use what ever is the cheapest panel at the time they commission a product run. The panel maybe a brand name (albeit one of their lower end ones) but the rest of the components used are the cheapest of the cheap yum cha rubbish. Don't get fooled by thinking it's anywhere near a LG because it certainly isn't.

    • I'm not sure why someone voted you down. He uses a Chinese supplier w/ cheaper Chinese panels.

It's no different to a house-branded TV from a big retail chain, really.

  • Probably Ruslan himself ;), he has a long history of attacking people who speak against his cheap & nasty products.
