Best Android Phone below $350 - Apparent Challenges with My BlackBerry Z10

Hi,

I have been using Blackberry Z10 and it's a fantastic phone for the price I paid for it, as far as performance, looks, email, camera, music, durability, etc go. However, the only and major problem I am facing is the availability of apps. Almost none of the apps are available for BB10 (Blackberry operating system). They recently made Amazon app store available on Blackberry, but it's of no use. It gets frustrating when I can't even use day-to-day apps like that for public transport or e-commerce or GPS or radio, etc which are available for Android or iOS in abundance. What do you suggest in this case? Is there any solution available OR moving to Android phone is the only solution? I said Android because I don't want to spend as much as a decent version of iphone will cost. If moving to an Android phone is the only solution, then can you suggest the best phone under $350?

I am feeling really bad for having to let go my Blackberry Z10 just because of apps' unavailability. What can I do with Z10? Will it sell in the market? or Can I use it for anything else?

  • For installing apps on the Z10, read up about Snap:

It's still not as good as full android IMO, if you decide to change phones I'd suggest a used flagship at $350 would be better than a brand new $350 phone, something like an Xperia Z3 Compact if you are used to the z10 screen size, it's only a year old but price is down due to the Z5 release.

  • z1 compact or z3 compact - IMO

  • Second hand One Plus One.

I picked up one for about $310 delivered on ebay.
6 months old, best phone ever! Battery life is amazing - like 2 days of solid use.
3-4 days of casual use and im sure you could get much more out of it on 2G/on battery saving mode.

    • I heard that OnePlus phones have network reception issues in Australia as they don't support particular bands. Have you experienced anything like that? I have Vodafone sim.. will it work fine with it?

      • I'm with telechoice through the Telstra 3g network and I've had no issues whatsoever. Can't vouch for other carriers.

  • similar battery life on my z1 compact

  • If you want a powerful phone with a large tech savvy community backing it, then perhaps you could the updated Asus Zenfone 2 Laser. The specs are really good, removable battery, 4GB RAM (don't bother with the 2GB version), microSD, Asus' inhouse ZenUI and one of the most customisable phones on Android.

Been using 2gb version for months. Very pleased with it. I understand 2gb version with lower spec display (which I have no issue with) also gives better battery life.

  • I totally understand where you are coming from Virhlpool, I lost my Q10 and started looking at an android as the whole apps thing on blackberry is crazy!! I ended up getting a second hand BB classic for $250 I am hoping with the new blackberry phone being android we won't have this problem anymore!

    • why would you buy the new Blackberry when there are MANY great android phones already out?

      • The quality of a blackberry (and security) are far better than any other similarly priced phones. The downside is the apps which are terrible.

Absolutely agree! Blackberry Z10 (or even Z30 and Q10) were some of my fav phones even until the end of 2014 (can't compare them with the recently released phones though). If I want one plus one, how do I buy it? I heard it needs an invite.. what is it all about?

Any good deals going on the zenfone 2 at the moment, 4gb model?

    • Zenfone 2 Vs One plus One - which one is a better value?
