"Future Visions: Original Science Fiction Stories Inspired by Microsoft is an anthology of short stories written by some of today’s greatest science fiction authors. These visionary stories explore prediction science, quantum computing, real-time translation, machine learning, and much more. The contributing authors were inspired by inside access to leading-edge work, including in-person visits to Microsoft’s research labs, to craft new works that predict the near-future of technology and examine its complex relationship to our core humanity.

Learn how science fiction and science fact come together in "Future Visions"

"greatest science fiction authors" is a massive stretch, along the lines of "Windows 8 was a great OS!"

    • Don't forget "some of the greatest…" Is their qualifier. And windows 8 wasnt perfect but it was a great OS.

They're all multi-award winners. You'd be hard put to recruit a better list of current hard-Sci-fi authors.

Elizabeth Bear: 3 Hugos, 1 Locus, + others

Greg Bear: 2 Hugos, 4 Nebulas, 1 Heinlein + others

David Brin: 2 Hugos, 1 Nebula, 1 Locus, + others

Nancy Kress: 1 Hugo, 3 Nebulas, + others

Ann Leckie: 1 Hugo, 1 Nebula

Jack McDevitt: 1 Nebula, 1 Locus, + others

Seanan McGuire: 1 Hugo, + others

Robert J Sawyer: 1 Hugo, 1 Nebula, 11 Auroras, + many others, and he's my favorite author

      • Good to know there are still hard SF writers out there. I had been thinking there were none left, my local bookstores have almost nothing of Asimov, Bova, Clark, Heinlein, Niven, Pournelle, etcetera. And everything else in the "SF" section mentions sorcery or dragons on the cover.

      • Maybe it is just my taste, but I don't find those awards a reliable guide to whether a book is good or not.

The expanse series was something I found that way though - and that is the best thing I have read in years (not hard S.F by any means though).
