Cheapest I've seen these in a while, almost everything is down to $15USD (the black elite edition is down to $25USD from $40USD). Normal price for the Elite is $30USD. Coupon is for free US shipping but it took $2USD off the shipping to Aus for me.

From the FAQ:
Road ID is a durable, rugged, athletic, fashionable line of identification gear. Currently, we offer 6 different forms of ID: the FIXX ID, the Shoe ID, the Ankle ID, the Wrist ID Sport, the Wrist ID Elite, and the Shoe Pouch ID. We provide various forms of ID to allow a person to decide where they want to wear their vital Identification. We encourage active people who participate in outdoor activities to wear ID and not take the chance of being unidentified in the event of an accident. It is far better to wear ID and never need it than to need ID and not have it.

I don't get it, what's wrong with carrying a wallet?
Plus why would you need your family to be called immediately? If you're dead it doesn't really matter if it takes a few hours. Same if you're unconscious and otherwise you'll probably be able to tell the ambos who you are. Accident induced amnesia doesn't happen as frequently in real life as it does in the movies.

Your Wallet wont carry information in it like your blood type, potential life threatening allergies. question is what can read the information off these things? useless if the people who need to read the info don't have a device capable and readily available to do so.

      • And who is to say your wallet will still be there when help arrives…

        • Fortunately this isn't Mad Max and people are more likely to help you rather than rob you if you are unconscious and have just been in an accident.

      • Nor do any of these in the example pictures.
People with life threatening allergies generally wear bracelets already. I think all these RoadIDs are is a metal tag, so all you need to read information off them is your eyes.

    • My george costanza wallet is not coming with me when I run! :P

Most people put blood type, medical conditions and drug allergies on their band to allow ambos/emergency room to know the basics, and the contact details allow them to call someone who will know a more detailed medical history.

In my case, I also don't take a phone with me, and am terrible at remembering phone numbers! If I sprain my ankle 5km from my car, I'm gonna need to borrow someone's phone and call home.

  • You couldn't pay me to wear one.

How about explaining what the referral link gets?

10% kick back but remember "In addition to earning valuable commission on your sales, you are demonstrating your support of athletic safety to your visitors" hahahahaha

  • Must be an American thing where people also love dog tags (outside the military) as some sort of badge of honor/toughness/dog the bounty hunter, whatever.

Having said that, I sort of like the bracelets without any engraving.

My 9yro dresses up in uniforms etc. He loves play acting a tough grown up too.
I think he is out growing it though.

They are a safety feature, mainly for runners or it could be good for a grandmother/father who gets lost easily.

These are popular in the bicycle touring scene. I almost bought one a few weeks ago.

The advantage for most people are allergy and medical history.

But I decided against it, can easily make your own or laminate a small card to carry.

  • But aren't the people who stumble across your unconscious body going to just think "lol nice bracelet fool" as they get on with the job of calling the authorities and administering first aid?

    • The intent is more for the authorities themselves to be able to see your blood type, drug allergies etc. The contact details are to get them in touch with someone who will know a more detailed medical history.

  • this is pretty much the most morbid thing i have seen on OzBargain, what next bargain funerals ?

It's definitely a bit morbid! But it's also for peace of mind!
