Hi Guys,

I wanted to speak my heart out because this is something that is eating my brains for quite sometime. Just go through all the links below. How can our government be so stupid? People work really really hard to earn money, so how can we let people like these get away. Is there nothing that we can do? The first case concerning Unique College is incredibly ostentatious and damming. It is a single floor college atop a $2 shop and yet he managed to secure VET FEE funding worth $150 million in the last 2 years alone! All this is our hard earned money that we pay in the form of taxes.

What is really disappointing and at the same time makes me really angry is that people in question in all these frauds are from my part of the world! It exactly what they would do in India, that is to get rich quick and at any cost, morality and ethics be dammed. It makes me really sad that a country like Australia is going to dogs just because of people like these. I know I am ranting but I wanted to take this off my chest :)

    Don't let it worry you too much.
    The authorities are cracking down on it, and I suspect the Unique College guy will not have his mansion etc. much longer.
    The real issue is a bunch of people now have FEE HELP debts to pay, no training results to show for it, and a rapidly aging laptop/ipad is all they have.
    And I wouldn't be too concerned about the sub-continent angle. I am aware of equally dubious colleges that are pure dinky di.
    Remember, this scam only became possible because conservative (Lib-Nat) governments wished to deregulate education and weaken TAFE.
    Prior to that, to earn these qualifications with government support you needed to enrol in a TAFE or Uni.
    The rule change, to allow free loans that may never need to be repaid (FEE HELP) to students at any accredited college was a starters pistol for scammers.
    At the time of the change, the argument was that students would never sign up for a shonky course. Nobody considered there would be inducements from the colleges..

    You can see a similar effect at work in private health insurance, where you can get sneakers, mp3 players, movie tickets etc. for signing up to insurance that is 30% paid by the government.

      This, most people enrol in these courses are and will not likely to work anyway. I've seen pensioners talking about these courses as an easy way to get a free laptop/ipad. They don't know how good those free things are. Free is free :-)

    As far as I am concerned, I always wanted to be a world citizen but it makes my blood boil when these people scam money out of tax payers and the government when we have families struggling and homeless begging on the streets.

    If you want to add more misery to your sleepless nights, check how much money our government wastes every year. The whole committee and research they started conducting some time back to block all torrent websites. What an amazing use of tax payer's money that was. Or that research about Halal certifications, when there was already an existing research paper about it existing.

      I think citizens of the world would be much more enthusiastic about paying tax if the Governments could should show that they are using our pool of funds appropriately.

    This is the biggest scam know to man, so many companies are exploiting the governments stupidity making millions of dollars. I guess if the loop holes are open; why not, but when the ex prime minister's wife made millions out of doing the same thing, who is going to shut it down? Im just pissed off my tax dollars are paying for Joe Blows Range Rover Autobiography.

    The education industry is rife with these shonky private colleges. Another one you should read about is Evocca college, which is in a similar predicament after some of their internal staff whistleblowed.

    They all have the same tactic — the lure of a laptop / iPad and the promise of a prestigious certificate that'll land you a job.

      I know. They have received more than $400 million in government funding. So get rid of your ethics and morals and get rich is what the government seems to be saying. Make hay while the sun shines.

    I walked past one of these "colleges" in the local shopping centre. A bloke was out the front spruiking - "hey bro, howz ya doin?". He could barely communicate and was trying to drum up business for this educational provider?!

    What is crazy is that these places are pulling in more money than TAFE's and Dual Sector (TAFE / Uni's).

    Why? Because Tafes and Duel Sec's are actually providing education at fair prices.

    You say 'Don't worry it'll be fixed soon'…. But its been happening for years… 1 or 2 people in Jail for 12 months isn't fixing the problem. You think the money is coming back from the Caymans?

    Dreaming.

    The government needs to sort this NOW.

    There will always be dodgy people in the world, they will do whatever it takes without ethics, morals to make a buck, best thing to do is just don't let it effect you

      I know the world would never be fair but this is blatant if you know what I mean. A lot of people work really hard to earn their money and pay hefty taxes on them. I just cannot let them spend my money so brazenly.

          And worst bit is the vulgar show off in the community with absolute disregard to the rest of the society which works hard and honestly. Can't we start a petition and send it to the minister to atleast have a really strict punishment for such people, if not changing the system.
