The designs are fun, that is the main appeal. Quality is on par with most socks. Just picked up a double pair for my 12 month old nephew for $9.15!

Not sure what issues you've experienced but I've been wearing these for a while with the oldest pair around 4 years now. Bonds used to make theirs in this kind of fabric but no more so I was thrilled when I came across these. Haven't disappointed me after all those years.
I personally prefer the solid ones because the patterns have seams which are an extra breaking point and leave fluff everywhere for the first few washes.
Bonds only lasts a few wears at most for me! There a 100% satisfaction thing, if you don't like them you could always return them.
