ASUS X302LA Vs Lenovo E450

I'm still seeking a budget-but-reasonable Windows laptop… And still vacillating..

I think I need brand new (not refurb), an i5, 4Gb RAM, 120 Gb SSD and less than 15", but I am willing to sacrifice full HD, touch screen and discrete graphics.

At this stage, I have found the ASUS X302LA which can be had, with some effort, for around $799, and a Lenovo E450 which can be had, very easily, for $772.66 (I don't know why, either).

If anyone has any thoughts or experience with these, then please share..

  • If you are looking at ThinkPad E450, definitely get the $55 Full HD option — that's a no brainer. E450/E550 will be in clearance soon to make ways for E460/E560 (Skylake, IPS screen). Personally I'll just got for the i5/4GB/500GB E450 and then source the extra RAM and SSD myself.

    • So the SSD upgrade (500Gb to 128Gb SSD) for the E450 is $100.

Can I do better myself? I'd have to buy the SSD and pay for it to be installed,

Also, I am supposedly saving $250 off the list price in their current sale, so is it likely to go lower to clear, or will they just sell out and move to the E460 with no discount at all?

      • ThinkPad hard drives & RAM are easily serviceable. Just few screws from the bottom to take the cover out. As of whether there's further discount — hard to tell.

    • Interesting, the E460 no longer has the Full HD option, and the SSD upgrade is $150 for 192Gb rather than $100 for 128Gb.

  • As a E450 user , I have only good things to say about the machine. I have the Full HD i7 model and AMD Graphics , 128 gb SSD and Dual band AC Wifi , got it for 700 something.
Awesome machine for sure. Played MGS and Mortal Kombat and FIFA 15 without a lag :)
I bought this to play dota 2 though :)
