Gaming PC for under $1000

Hey guys

Decides I need to see the grass on the other side of the fence

Can anyone comment on this article for a cheap gaming PC capable of running Fallout 4

http://www.forbes.com/sites/antonyleather/2015/11/13/how-to-…

I have done some homework and can build this for approx. $900 in Australia

I know my way around a PC and I'm more than comfortable building a custom rig but I have been out of the PC gaming scene for too long and feel a little lost

Just after a box.

Thanks all

    • +1

Link to that particular motherboard? Can't find that anywhere. You need an ssd, makes a world of difference. Ensure that mobo is suitable for ddr3 ram, you may need ddr4.

        • Ahhh H170, the N170 put me off in the OP. Looks like ddr3 will be fine then. Possibly look at a 960 rather than the 750.

      • I absolutely agree on the SSD. Also maybe that graphics card is a bit old and possibly underpowered. A 960 should be a lot better, I think. I got a 970 when it was on a 20% off deal on ebay and recommend that if you wait for a similar deal.

The rest looks fine. Maybe 1600MHz RAM will be a bit cheaper, and will make barely any difference. I didn't bother with a DVD drive as I have an external one, and barely use it. Depends on your needs. Hope you're not paying for that warranty as the consumer warranty should cover everything.

  • Thanks for the advice

I have decides to up my budget a little….well alot but this is what I have come up with

    http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/RCksTW

Do I need additional case fans for something like this?

And do I really need 16GB ram or should I scale this back

  • may as well get this then http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/k4FrK8

you can get the r9 fury delivered for $750 from newegg, http://www.newegg.com/global/au/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8…

that would make the build the same price with a better graphics card and power supply, im a big fan of new tech, the r9 fury mmmm

CPU and motherboard changed, price per performance much improved :)

    • Thanks!! Do i need cpu fans on top of this?

The R9 fury is almost double the cost of the R9 390. Is the extra spend worth it?

Also should I stay with 16gh ram

      • Stock fans are fine, but it's up to you, if im building a gaming PC im going to put most of my funds towards the graphics card.

  • Do you still need any advice ? how much budget can you bump up to? when do you plan to upgrade it?

  • Any advise is welcome

Look at about 1500 now. Would like to purchase in the next few weeks
