Looking to Buy a New Surface Book

I am looking to buy a Surface Book and was wondering if there is anywhere I can pickup the device cheaper than the RRP? Being a true Oz Bargainer I cannot pay RRP as I will get terminally ill and will never get over it. I have sold my Pro 3 and want a replacement but it seems that hanging out to closer to Xmas might be the way to go.

Cheers,

  • Surface Book is selling exclusively on the microsoft website and the windows store in Sydney for now.

No plans to release to other distributors as of now

I had a Surface 3 Pro which I used a lot for my post grad studies. The Pen is invaluable to me as I use it to write out my notes rather than typing them up. So far I have not found any device which has the same feature(s) with high end hardware. The Surface line is expensive but worth it in my view.

Plus the XPS 13 doesn't even have the option of Iris graphics let alone a discrete chip (for my old school gaming ;) .

  • Someone at JB Hi-Fi at Chadstone said they have now been told they will get the SB in December, despite originally being told they wouldn't.

If you know someone who is a student or education staff (or if you still have your email address from your postgrad studies), you can get 10% off at the Microsoft Store. The cheapest model at $2299 becomes $2069.10.

I'll be buying SP4 at an education discount. Good luck!

    • Good point. Ill check to see if my account is still active as I had stopped last semester.

I though that the Book would be available in more places because there is only the Sydney Microsoft store and people like to go have a look and feel before spending so much on a very personal device.

Looks like waiting till December might be my best bet if education discount is not available. Cheers.

      • If the SB does come out in JB then lucky you, as my brother who finished uni 5+ years ago was able to price match the 10% discount in store for the pro 4, so hopefully SB is the same case.

Oh really? Hope that is true and they can offer a bigger discount, in the market for SB but doubt there will be any major discount anytime soon, so will prob order soon with student discount.

Remember cashrewards has 4% for surfaces. :)

      • They do! I need to remember Cashrewards more. Anyway, this is limited to up to $24.

        • Yeh I should ask a rep about that, I think it is just showing the one with that it assumes to be the greatest value, otherwise wouldnt make sense for each category to have a cashback at all

edit: ah wait nvm, it shows at the bottom that they are each up to 24

Andrew form Cashrewards here. I can confirm it is 4% cashback on Surface with no minimum cashback. The $24 cashback refers to the amount you get back on a yearly Office subscription. Apologies for the confusion. We'll try to make it clearer on-site.

        • @ahc99: Hi Andrew, thanks for clearing that up :)

Im actually the guy who emailed you guys about that :p

        • @Teal:

So in true OzBargain style, if I was to buy a surface pro/book, the best deal is 10% off students deal (from Microsoft website), and 4% cashrewards cashback. This sounds like the best deal all the way until Christmas.

        • @Deridas: Yeh that was what I was planning to do, but as JB maybe getting the SBs soon, I may wait and forgo the 4%, having a physical store to deal with is worth alot more to me, in case of warranty etc.

        • @Teal:

Teal, we now have a Microsoft store in Sydney :), can deal with them directly :).

My plan was to visit the microsoft store this weekend, and then if evening looks good I'll order a surface m3 online with student discount + cashrewards. It's 1200+ with student discount. 4% of that is almost $50. The ozbargainer in me won't let that $50 go :P.

I don't think it's a bad idea buying directly with Microsoft a it's a big company. Last time I got a Nexus 5 directly from google store, and when it died I rang google up and I got a replacement, no questions asked. Google paid for postage as well. That was just the nexus 5 though.

The thing with jb is your can always ask for a further discount though on the spot and see how desperate the salesperson is.

        • @Deridas:

Oh yes I know about the Windows store, thing is I live in Melbourne

Id just like to have the piece of mind of a brick and mortar store.

Is m3 sufficient for your needs? whenever computers laptops come into play I usually advise that get at least an i5
