Today i bought a iPad Air 2 at Costco for $680 but only opened it when i got home. When i opened the the box, the iPad was not wrapped, everything wasn't rapped like the packaging from apple. In addition to this, the iPad has a pass-code lock on it so we are unable to open it. What can we do with this? we have the receipt of purchase and all of that. Do we go in store and simply ask for an exchange or is there additional compensation that the store should do because they sold a used iPad? This was the last iPad 64GB that they had in stock with the store coupon promo.

I thought the answer would be pretty obvious… its only when they deny it all or other problems arise should you join a forum and write a post about it..
or is there additional compensation that the store should do because they sold a used iPad?
Hoping for additional sweeteners/compensations maybe? I agree with you though, we seem to get a lot of posts about people asking what to do before they even talk to the store they purchased it from!
As far as I know (happy to be corrected), as long as they do exchange a new one for you, no, no compensation is legally required. Any compensation would be a courtesy rather than a law.
or let us keep the current one and give us another? Would that even be possible?
Are you serious???? Greedy/entitled much.
Yes, absolutely! You should demand they give you a free $1000+ product for free because some pleb accidentally sold you a refunded item. Don't take no for an answer, if possible film the experience so we can all watch this act of righteousness.
I know that we can get a replacement from this but any additional compensation since they did sell a used iPad. Maybe a 128GB replacement or let us keep the current one and give us another? Would that even be possible?
Cypher67 is correct - within certain limits. In Victoria and South Australia, it's possible to claim up to $890 in compensation if a store knowingly sells you a second hand item as new. The only requirement is that the item must be completely destroyed. This is so the store cannot then on-sell the item again once you have returned it. You'll need to take a hammer to the iPad before you take it back to the store to start the compensation process. Once you arrive, tell the service person what happened, and explain that you'll need to do a compensation return. You may need to speak with their manager. Good luck, let us know how it goes.
I feel so stupid and I apologies! Blitz is correct, the item needs to be destroyed prior to returning otherwise there is no way of proving you weren't the one that had been using it. This prevents the item from being on sold again to a most unfortunately customer like yourself. Probably best you also film the destruction process for us to review after you take it back.
Demand 5k in compensation. Accept nothing less.
Was the iPad box not wrapped ? Didn't that set off alarm bells for you?
The iPad box was wrapped, however when we unrapped it, the iPad and the accessories were not. In addition the iPad was locked with a passcode.
I would have gone straight back to cosco. Go back tomorrow morning and ask for another one and open it at cosco.
Out of interest check if it is iCloud locked. https://www.icloud.com/activationlock/
I know this may sound odd, but everytime I buy something expensive I take a video recording of myself opening it in the car. Sick of stores selling used stuff.
Costco will replace or refund if you are not happy with any of their goods.
Take it back. Costco won't argue and will accept returns no problems.
That iPad 2 (that's OLD) would be considered to be refurbished, NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apple charges $629 for a refurbished and reset and all yours, without there being any previous ownership connections.
The head phones could have been in someone else's ears!!This one (you could say) still belongs to someone (connected to some ones else's user name), used and returned!!!!
Out of the box there is no (password) 4 digit pin, that has to be setup in the settings when you first turn it on, when you choose what language, iCloud, iTunes, etc, etc, etc!!Just return it, it not even an iPad Air.
What are you talking about?
very used.
I have a new iPad Mini 4, I know how they are wrapped!!
The iPad is used.
It's not refurbished. Refurbished is as new, with the same warranty as new and as new plastic wrapped to stop scratching in transit and no password/pin so it can be used with out a pin in a reset condition!
If it was refurbished (recycled) it would be wrapped in plastic in the box with new wrapped ear phones, not lose in the box!
This is an older model that has been used!!!What warranty does it have??
Does it have an apple warranty or just a 1 year Costco warranty? The original Warranty starts when the iPad is first turned on and a pin with user settings are put in, when new, for the first user.
That is why display stock has to go back for scratch/damage repair, to be reset along with the warranty to be restarted (some stock can be as much as 2yrs old), so it can be sold with a warranty, usually on line.If the warranty is less(6 months), that's because it is used!!

I'm a costco Member they have a satisfaction grantee if you are not happy you can take the ipad back I'm guessing thats what happened you got someones return. But I bought an iphone from a store and they re wrapped it and only reason I found out it had been used was because the warranty didn't match and the cords was FAKE! The store replaced my iphone straight away with one that had never been opened as they had no rights to re wrap it - Apple told me.
Take it back for replacement (they may be able to get one from another store) or refund…. or keep it.
The choice is yours. I would not want to pay that price for a used one.
