Buying Printer Toner for Samsung M2070FW

I bought this Samsung M2070FW multifunction B/W laser printer from an OzBargain deal a while ago. The time has finally come to buy a printer toner refill.

As we probably know, printer manufacturers often sell their printers for quite cheap, knowing that they'll make a killing on the toner/ink. What's the best way for me to buy a toner refill cartridge without breaking the bank?

The toner I need is the MLT-D111S, which Officeworks sell for $100.69. I just found it at The Good Guys for $69.

I know I can get generic brand toner from my local printer shop or online for significantly cheaper, although some manufacturers electronically prohibit you from using generic cartridges with their printers, and other generic cartridges can leak or otherwise risk breaking your device.

How should I go about this?

1. Go with the cheapest option at a nearby brick-and-mortar store? Should I go with Good Guys or wait till Monday to buy from a specialist printer store?

2. Buy a genuine Samsung cartridge online and have it delivered. (This option is less ideal - my printer is currently out of ink and I would rather have something quickly).

3. Buy a generic cartridge at my local printer store. Significantly cheaper but risk it can damage my printer or not work.

4. Buy a generic cartridge online.

5. Realistically my preferred solution, if possible - Find a cheap genuine cartridge available online and see if Officeworks would pricematch the online price (including delivery, etc). Does anybody know if this would work?

I would greatly appreciate any advice!

Do you use the other functions, if not I'd buy a new printer, I picked up a ricoh last week for $19.00

    • Yeah, I actually do scan and photocopy regularly, and my girlfriend uses the wireless printing function. I'm not going to throw it out just yet!

does it take the 3000page toner? MLT-D111L - should be about $100

    • Technically it should. Although most of the resources I found on it weren't from Australia, and it looks somewhat difficult to source locally. I'll keep it in mind.

What I've done with the past three or four printers in my house was buy two genuine toner cartridges at the cheapest possible price then refill them with toner from toner stop. That way I have genuine parts in the toner cartridge itself and a cheap source of toner. The two cartridges work well because it's messy when refilling, and it's the last thing you need at 3am before an essay is due.

    • I didn't know you could do that. I'll probably buy the genuine cartridge from Good Guys/Officeworks price match tomorrow, and will find a place that can refill my cartridges next time I need it.

      Thanks :)

      • Don't go to cartridge world. They charge you heaps for something you can easily do at home. It takes me about 5 minutes to refill each cartridge and after about 20 refills later, my printer works perfectly fine and print quality is good.

    • I've heard that with some genuine toners the chip records when it is empty, so even if you refill it the chip will say it is empty. Might want to make sure the M2070FW isn't one that does this.

      • I've heard that too. I'll definitely have to do some research about it.

  • I bought generic toners from eBay. Every time I print there are always ink spots.

When you refill the cartridge with the original starter toner that comes with the printer, do you get a clear printed page without ink spots?

    • I never refill the starter cartridge. I only refill high capacity ones.

  • http://www.tonerstop.com.au/samsung-sl-m2070fw have the toner and a compatible cartridge and say a chip reset is not required if you refill the starter cartridge.
