Jeep Grand Cherokee 2012 onwards, Who has bought one and has not faced any issues during ownership?

Just wondering what the population of jeep grand cherokee owners here and how many people actually faced issues with it.

This guy apparently needed to have his towed 3 times and made a video about all the issues he faced.

  • Seen quite a few long winded horror stories involving Jeeps.
It is not unusual for any new car to have problems but when the dealers and maker make little effort to set things right that is when a lot of regret sets in. That regret gets even more sour a few years later when you find out that the depreciation rate is mind boggling because of the vehicles reputation.
    A lot of reading here… http://www.productreview.com.au/c/4wd-awd/m/jeep.html
Being a product review site you would naturally expect mostly gripes.
I have also heard of many happy owners too. Some people don't disclose all though..
When spending that sort of money I prefer to err on the side of quality and reputation, just a personal thing.

    Why are you asking?

  • Waiting for the local Jeep fanboy to comment and call it a Mercedes in Jeeps clothing

    • You must be thinking of Whirlpool again.

  • MY14 was the model refresh when it go the 8 speed and upgraded interior including the Uconnect.

1 year, zero issues, great car, very cheap for what you get. Only modern SUV with decent power that can go offroad under $80k.

    • You must be forgetting about the Y62 Patrol. 300kw V8 for under $70k.

      • Fair enough, a good car for the money too. But you can get a dual range Jeep with decent kit that will go off-road for under $45k on the road. That is an amazing deal.

You can buy a shiny new LR Defender SWB for under $50k, or a Freelander for ~$55k if you want the frills. Land Rovers will outlast Jeeps several times over, but if you're really looking for a soccer mum's taxi, a Jeep will probably earn more street-cred from the other mothers.

      • You can't buy a defender to save yourself, they are sold out till the end of production, and selling for way above RRP. Also, they are incredibly unreliable, and have been always seen as capable but put together with glue and tape.

The Freelander is not only out of production, but useless off road. Don't believe the marketing hype, the Freelander is a soft roader in the softest sense, it has not diff lock, no low range, and is actually based on the decades old front wheel drive Mondeo Chassis. The Volvo XC60 is the same car in drag.

        • A check online car websites reveals a few of them, not a hell of a lot of stock to be sure, but understandable given the situation. I dispute the reliability claim, I've owned a 2.5l 90 from new for over a decade and it was the most reliable vehicle I've ever had — regrettably had to trade it only after wife's insistence about safety features (though current model is better in that regard) and lack of on-road acceleration. They are still used in police and military in many parts of the world, and are only now falling out of favour for frontline use due to a lack of weapons/explosive/mines/EMP vulnerability, not due to mechanical issues, albeit the TD5 engine being more hightech, is being ditched because it is not suited to field servicing. The upcoming replacement model should resolve those issues.

        • @kryzstoff: Great cars no doubt, but not really comparable. I'd love one, depreciation will be basically nil from now on. You can easily drop $70k on current stock, if you can find one however. Way too much for what you get.

  • How fun and professional this video is! Should go viral!

Also watch this dashcam video on a stolen Jeep being pursuit and busted.
Can someone tell what type/model of dashcam can be hidden/shown speed as well? Want to get one like this myself after watching this.
Very educational video - to learn how to stay calm and call the cops if event happens.

Hey mate, the person in the video has one of the Garmin Dash Cams (either the 10, 20, 30 or 35 version). Another well received camera is the Street Guardian but is quite expensive ($200-$300 AU).

There's also a pretty good resource for dashcams called DashCamTalk.

      • thanks, would rather take your recommendation for it. Have had half a dozen of the under $100 (posted ones) and like something more decent and last.
