[PRE-ORDER] Electric Self Balancing Scooter (Black) $399 + Shipping @ Toys "R" Us (Online Only)

192

Wow!

These are the best things since sliced bread and will be selling like hotcakes as everyone I know wants one of these for Xmas after seeing me glide around in the office.
$399AUD is ridiculously good since this is a quality version with Samsung Lithium Ion Cells. Check the prices anywhere else, and you'll see that it's exceptionally cheap! JB Hi-FI has one in stock but the price is $749!

how about adding the price in the title :)

    • +2

      Done.

  • -6

    Umm, looks like regular price…

    • -2

Regular price is still a bargain, if it's significantly cheaper than anywhere else.

      • -1

Can you find this brand anywhere else?

Action doesn't exactly bring confidence with it. It's a cheap home-brand

        • +1

All the SB Scooters are essentially made in the same couple of factories in China and are rebadged.

The ones with Samsung Li-Ion batteries are significantly better however, and this is the cheapest I've found for Australian stock. As I've said, the one in JB Hi-Fi right now goes for $749 and I can't confirm it's even as good as this one.

          Looks like this one:

          http://www.dhgate.com/store/product/two-wheels-smart-self-ba…

USD $324 (~AUD$450) plus $328 shipping…OP might have found a bargain (as much as I hate to admit it, I detest these things).

          @Spackbace:

Also on eBay, not from a retailer, has the same casing but doesn't list battery type which normally means the components are inferior.

See how many similar looking ones there are? Like I said, they have similar casings but are rebadged from different factories. The ones with Samsung cells are rebadged Swag Boards or IOHawk which are the best.

I know it's easy to criticise deals especially if you don't have good knowledge of the subject matter, but I've done my research on these things. I don't get anything out of posting it on here, so if this is the reaction for a genuine bargain I'll just not post anymore.

          @Spackbace:

I think if I was going to blow $365 on one of these things, I'd be more than happy to get it from a reputable Bricks and Mortar retailer and pay the extra $34. Whilst the ebay sellers in question are Australian, the names "happycynthia" and "discountedkiosk" don't quite carry the brand cred as "toysRus", particularly if a warranty claim should need to be made.

        • @fatal: Batteries come down to taste. The LG ones are fine too. What's the capacity

        • @blighst:

The battery comments weren't so much about the specific brand of battery, but the fact that the higher quality ones use that particular brand. Just makes it easier to identify which ones are duds. LG definitely make good cells too.

        • @Spackbace: mmm that Bumblebee yellow one looks nice. Only says Samsung battery in the listing tagline - not in the specs - so Id want to double check that.

        • +2

would rather purchase from toys r us than some eBay merchant.

        • -1

@Spackbace: better price on ebay , not a bargain

Hello, can you ride these whilst squatting?

    • Yes.

  • Thanks OP I've been after 1 of these for my son where I can actually take it back to if there's a problem! Cheers :)

    • Anyone retailing one in Australia (excluding importers) must provide a warranty. Can totally understand though if you like a physical store.

      • Yeh there's so many on eBay im just nervous it will arrive and if anythings wrong I won't be able to take it back I'll have to send it and wait etc atleast with toys r us I can go in an exchange it on the spot! I Tried Amazon but most can't be shipped here

        • Pay through PayPal, eBay and PayPal are great at covering purchases that don't come.

  • Just a note that this may not be legal to use in public - last I heard, only QLD was explicitly legal, whilst other states were implicitly illegal.

  • +8

The ads for these really write themselves.

"Want to make your shit head kid even fatter and more lazy? Walking, pushing a scotter or peddling a bike too hard for this over privileged piece of shit generation? Well for the low low price of $399, their fat ass can float like air!"

    • Ha, that reminds me of the Simpsons episode when Homer goes to stay with grandpa Simpson in the Springfield retirement castle. Sees someone in a wheelchair and gripes 'and here I am walking, like a sucker….'. Then there's the resident with the feeding tube, then the one in the iron lung…..

  • Is this legal in QLD now? I thought there is wattage limit on the motor.

    • 250 watt is the max but I would say they would be under that.

  • Thank God they aren't calling it a 'Hoverboard'.

  • -3

    USELESS!

    ILLEGAL TO RIDE IN PUBLIC

    • +2

      Not in QLD.

      • I live in Brisbane and most suburbs don't actually have footpaths that these can be ridden on. We have enough trouble finding places the kids can ride their scooters and bikes, have to go through the neighbourhood and map areas that have footpaths Most places it is non-contiguous. God knows what council does with the money from developers and rates.

    • +2

Who said. They go bearly 10km an hr. With a helmet no ones gonna give a shite if they see u riding on the foot path down side street

      • +2

NSW and VIC police have been seen confiscating these like hotcakes and fining people in excess of $1000 if they give them lip.

        • +1

Proof of $1K fines for "lip" ?

    • +1

I swear I saw someone near Bankstown NSW yesterday riding this thing on the pedestrian path. Didn't realise it was illegal at the time.

      • They are selling them at literally every JB Hi-Fi in NSW. Might be illegal, but it's up to the police to enforce.

    • do you have source..?

    • +1

      http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/2015/10/03/self-balancing-s…

Been several news stories about it lately

  • Ohhhh no….just ordered one from China

  • I thought this product was posted before and it was voted down because you could get them shipped directly from China for $100-200??

  • I saw a teenager maybe 16yrs old riding this in the food court of Burwood westfields

  • I'm so keen to pre-order one of these, but hesitant that they are illegal in NSW. I know no laws are going to get changed any time soon….is it worth the risk? What is the fine (does anyone know). Surely they can't confiscate it?

    • Why not give your local cop shop a call tomorrow and ask? Its the responsible thing to do.

Its probably illegal to drive a $99 radio control car on the road, but every kid who owns one drives it in their street and Ive never heard of anyone getting fined. I would guess these mostly get used in the local neighbourhood park ?

    • +2

      http://www.camdencourier.com.au/story/1110584/e-bike-owners-…

People need to be aware of the laws as anyone caught riding a vehicle which is not exempt and is not registered, may be fined and have their vehicle confiscated by police.

These scooters fall under the same law as electric bicycles and conventional electric scooters

The fine is $637 for unregistered, and $637 for uninsured.

I very much doubt the police will give a toss if you're using it in a big suburban park, but I'd expect them to at least stop you if you ride it in front of a CBD police station. If you're unlucky, they might confiscate your board. If you're really unlucky, they'll fine you.

      • Exactly this ^ Might be illegal, but depends on how/where you are using them. The fact that every JB Hi-Fi selling them in NSW means a lot of people are going to be disappointed if they can't ride them anywhere.

  • +3

If these are illegal then they better chase after all those Gophers running amok on the streets, bloody hoons.

If we want to get serious then why dont the police do anything about the HUGE problem of unlic off road dirt bikes that I see everywhere, and you are worried about a silly toy?

    • I think your local cops are just incompetent.

  • How much was shipping on this deal? Their site won't show it unless you register.

    • +1

      $9.99 to Metro NSW.

      • Great, thank you :) Now to work out if $410 is in the budget…

  • A similar one has just appeared in the BigW catalogue:

    https://www.bigw.com.au/bigw-catalogues?utm_source=email&utm…

I'm feeling a little worried that the one I pre-ordered from TRU won't turn up in time for Christmas, wondering if I should cancel and buy this one instead.

    • Mine arrived today (Sydney). It can also be purchased online - it isn't marked as a pre-order any more.
