Best Joint Every Day Account / Credit Card

Hi all,

My partner and I are looking to integrate our day to day expenses a little and are trying to figure out the most ozbargainy way of doing it.

At the moment a joint ING everyday is in the lead thanks to the 2% cashback but the $1000 deposit each month is a pain.

I'm looking for suggestions of the best either credit card account or everyday account for us, all suggestions welcome!

HSBC Day to Day has no monthly fee or requirement deposit. But no rewards cashback. Citibank Plus transaction A/c also the same, and you get a Debit Card which you can withdraw the foreign currency you want from ATMs around the world directly out of the AUD $ in your account. Much easier than buying Travel Money. Discussed here in this forum https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/cards_with_no_overseas_tra… It served me well in the US where there are heaps of Citibank ATMS in the east coast as well as most 7/11 stores. If you don't use their ATM, you get charged a nominal fee by the other banks ATM. But this happens with any other debit card used on another bank's ATM anyway.

Citibank plus is great, we have an account already and it's our plan B!

  • In what way the $1000 deposit each month a pain?

every month in order to get the cashback, there must be minimum $1K put into account (most likely via salary deposit) Why it's a pain is with some people maybe this doesn't always happen, or maybe they have their salary deposited into another account. Rewards do not come without conditions and that is a fair requirement.

You do know that you can just transfer $1000 out of your ING account to another account (ING or non-ING); and transfer it back to your ING to get the benefits, right?

        UPDATE 1
Oops, sorry, I am assuming that you have at least $1000 in your current ING account (which I hope you at least do?)

        UPDATE 2
All the system needs to see every month is a $1k coming in into your account. They don't care what you do with the rest of the money afterwards. And it doesn't have to go into your Transaction Acc, going straight into Savings Acc is also counted.

And I really recommend anyone to deposit their salary into ING
Where else can you find Savings with 3.5% p.a. (Max $100k) ?

        Well, there's ME Bank with 3.55%, but they don't have 2% cashback…

        • Mortgage offset account is the ideal endpoint.

My wife and I have a joint account through ING, highly recommend it. Have a $1000 auto transfer from ANZ savings then auto from ing to anz the next day (counts as $1000 p/m)
Free atm and cash back is handy!
That and Credit Card a Amex discovery card to get QFF points. Each year I fly twice nationally for free or internationally free when utilising the points accumulated over the year.

    Shopping/fuel etc use AMEX
Small transactions use ING and get cashback.
    Hope it helps. :)

NAB have an everyday account, that doesn't require minimum deposits.

    Also Citibank Plus.

    Hard to beat ING.

Wouldn't one of you have a direct credit of salary ?
