eBay Seller Wants Bank Details for Partial Refund?

Hi everyone, I bought a $350 sofa couch that came with cheap removable armrests. Unlike the photo descriptions, they don't stand straight and almost fall out.

Contacted seller with photos before leaving feedback and they'd like to offer a partial refund of $75.

Here's the thing: they're requesting my bank details as "PayPal won't allow a partial refund, only a full refund can be selected".

I have sold on eBay before to know partial refunds are easy to do. It has been a while though, has PayPal changed some policies?

I feel reluctant to giving my bank details.

What to do?

Btw, they're a reputable seller with over 10k+ ratings.

What is so bad about giving your bank details? At least that way PayPal can't take a cut.

Isn't giving out your bank account number just like giving your phone number? People can call in or send money in, but they can't call out or take money out, no?

  • If it's the owner or manager, probably makes it easier on the books to just transfer money without having to change all the paperwork AFAIK.

  • Agree with above, but in answer to your query:

Send a refund for a purchase
You can send refunds within 60 days of receiving a payment.
You can send a full or partial refund.
Your original transaction fee is credited to you. When issuing partial refunds, a portion of the fee is credited.

  • Paypal does offer a partial refund just tried it on a ebay item i sold.

If you the BUYER have used eBay or PayPal coupon, the seller will NOT have the Partial refund option.

  • What to do?
Give the seller your bank details.
