  • Wasn't the original model (55 inch I believe) regularly at $3200? That's a nasty price hike.

That's the Price for the FHD OLED, this is the new 4K OLED :)

Probably thinking of the 1080p model

    • Thanks, that goes a good way to explaining it. Wasn't aware the last was 1080p, not that resolution mattered when it actually looked so nice anyway.

      still too expensive
      and curve screen is shit

  • Currently tossing up between the LG 55EG960t UHD OLED and the Samsung UA65JS8000. Both $4,000 with rebates ($500 and $300 respectively) but OLED curved vs 10"… Leaning towards the bigger size to take full advantage of UHD.

    • +5

Hope you're making a trip instore to see them too though, yes? Spending that much I wouldn't go purely based on specs alone - have heard OLEDs are MUCH nicer…

      • Yeah, went into the store yesterday (before the oled came down to $4000) and had somewhat settled on the Samsung but when the prices are the same, it makes a much tougher choice. There is definitely a better image quality on the LG but the Samsung 8 series is pretty damn impressive none the less.

The JS9000 is $3835 @ HN ATM, just to add to your options :-)

        • @Mic Cullen: Looked into that option originally too! Using the 'ebay10' code, you can actually get the JS8000 from Bing Lee for $3,600 ($3,300 with rebate) :). I just don't think I can justify an extra $500 for the JS9000 in the end

        • @Lachlan-94: No Bing Lee here in Melbourne :-) Love the curved screen on the 9000, and the upgradeable OC box makes it the winner for me, I think.

  • I'm waiting for a 55/60 FHD/UHD tv with a 200hz panel under 2000… Hmm

    • You need to go back in time (or forward!) - I'm pretty sure all the prices have gone back up now…

      • Saw that but now really interested in Sony…LG would be much preferred 😉

Yeah I put the info in the post

      • +3

Of course the OZBargain thing to do would be to do up a list of people wanting to buy one of these (living in the same city) and then…

1st person buys and gets rebate offer, (2nd person gives money to first person to buy another tv) both split the added rebate amount…

Pain in the butt to organise though, lol

    • Yeah, it's a complete non-event, that rebate.

not trying to start the LED vs plasma debate….but serious question: do the new LEDs still have that soap opera effect? (like the ones on this deal or the last 55" sony LED android TV)

    • +1

OLED and LED are completely different mate..

      • ok….my bad….so i guess my question should now be:
do the new OLEDs still have that soap opera effect? (like the ones on this deal or the last 55" sony LED android TV)

        ;P

if youre worried about the blur, get a TV with 200hz panel. especially if the screen is bigger than 55

        • @mrgeckoz:
mrgeckoz, to be honest that'd just make it worse…if anything I would like that 200hz off completely. But then I might get stutter in action scenes….bit of a catch 22

        • @homersyd: At least it's good to have the option.

    • what effect?

      • +1

if you havent noticed this effect, then it's probably better if you dont start try looking for it….it's for your own good mate :)

        • otherwise it will become butterfly effect?

        • @mrgeckoz: hahaha lol

  • please note i think you can only use LG's own wall bracket to mount these on the wall. just because they are curved. =)

Strange though the energy rating is only 3.5 stars, I thought oled would be more energy efficient.

  • Just keep in mind these aren't the latest model, the 9500 series is already out in the USA, no ETA yet for AU but likely the new year.
