Outdoor concert advice

Going to the Mumford & Sons concert in the Sydney domain this Saturday and was wondering, given gates open at 1pm and it finishes at 11pm, if bringing things like picnic blankets become annoying later on when it's packed? Or is there typically plenty of space to have the option of standing or lying down? Are there typically seats at such events - the info page doesn't mention there are.

It seems like just about everything is banned from bringing in - food, drink in plastic, glass or metal containers, chairs, so a picnic is out.

Any other advice for the best experience? Got some of those Etymotic ear plugs just in case it's dangerously loud.

    Given M&S aren't on till 845pm, finishing at 11pm, maybe don't get there at 1pm ;)

    • Was tentatively thinking of getting there at 3pm so we don't need a telescope, but that's still 8 hours(!). Wonder if 5 would be too late to get a decent position.

Take whatever food you want. Put it in the middle of your picnic rug, or suitable scatered. They don't search particularly well, and if they are busy you can just slip through. Be creative. From experience the food at these venues are overpriced and second rate. Usually plenty of space, but the spots up the front get taken quickly. A picnic blanket can be used to mark your space, and it is more socially accepted than peeing in each corner of your 'territory'. Most places let you take a LOW chair in to sit on. check with the organisers. The way I look at it is if I get me $5 bottle of wine confiscated, it will cost me $35 to buy a bottle inside, as opposed to $30. If you do buy wine inside, take your own bottle top sealers, as they open them for you and there is usually no way to close them if you don't want to drink it all at once. Take a good foam mattress or a thin (5cm) camping self inflating mattress. makes sitting much more fun if you dont have chairs.
