I heard about Miracast, Microsoft Display adapter, Airplay but not sure which one to go for my needs
Please advise or share your best set up
-> Win8.1 Laptop - sometimes I connect to a TV for streaming videos from non youtube, netflix site (e.g: dailymotion, Putlocker etc)
-> Iphone 5S and Lumina640 -> I want to mirror photos / videos to a TV

I use HDMI as well and have hard drive connected for photo/video viewing.
But looking for better way to stream straight away from laptop or phone.
I just ordered an 'Icast6' TV dongle and an 'Ezcast' dongle from Ebay (both $25ea).
Both work flawlessly across all the platforms you mentioned at 1080 (ie DLNA, Airplay, Miracast..how ever you want to project it).
Heaps of different apps for casting (I found Bubble to be very good).
It requires a USB port for incoming power and plugs into a HDMI port.
There are a heap on the market. I found the adapters with an external aerial are the way to go. Also, make sure it casts in 1080, as many of the cheaper options (ie the $15 iPush) say it can cast 1080 (which it can), but it is cast at 720p.
Yeah, we use a HDMI cable too. Will be interesting to see what other people use for a windows PC.
Works amazingly well with an Apple TV and airplay. Macbook, ipad and iphone on the screen instantly with no fuss.
