May as well fed your dog mud.

Why do you say that? My dog has no problems eating this for breakfast.

      • The ingredients are all generic mushed up shit and there's lots of cheap filler which has zero nutritional value.

  • Is this really that bad? Without having the budget to spend on super premium food, I always though that this was a good option, and the vet had no problem when we mentioned this is what we feed our dogs.

absolutely nothing wrong with this brand of dog food, listen to your vet :)

      • I'd say the vet is trying to guarantee future business.

  • I've posted this before

    www.petfoodreviews.com.au

Decide for yourself. I'd never feed it to any dog.

You know that site exists to sell the premium food brands, it's not an actual review site, right?
Dogs evolved to eat human leftovers, so supercoat would seem ideal. My dog ate the semi-liquid contents of my children's nappies while they were breast fed, and still regularly seeks out duck droppings, again I would guess supercoat is an improvement on that.
I have a 17 year old cat who has had lifelong whiskas so I will take my chances and stock up on supercoat today.

      • Actually, they give really negative reviews to a lot of the most expensive brands. Not that you should take the word of one review site alone.

If you actually care, read a variety of information from a variety of sources and make up your own mind.

Personally I would not feed Supercoat.

      • How do you know it's there to sell premium foods?

I have read all dog food reviews on there and it seems to be a very neutral opinion simply by analyzing ingredients, allowing the reader to decide for themself.

      Yeah there's a review site I'll trust…

"Hi, i have a Neapolitan mastiff x great dane, he us 20months old, ive had him on black hawk lamb and rice for just over two weeks. Problem is he has lost a lot of weight and been unwell…"

      gets the response:

"Hi Lisa, it can take a dog a while to adjust to a new food so it might be worth introducing a food gradually. It might not be because he doesn’t like it, more that he’s confused by it. Perhaps try Canidae or Artemis if you can get hold of them, both very good foods."

A dog doesn't get unwell because it's "confused", for pity sake!!! Maybe advise this person to take her dog to the vet!?!? No perhaps she can hire an expert in Astrology and Feng Shui to help sort this dog's Chakras.

But apparently if your dog has a hotspot or anal gland ruptures it's all because you bought Supercoat. Just beggars belief that people behave like this. No doubt food made out of better ingredients is better for your dog.

Here's a review site that isn't focused on selling premium dog food:
      http://www.productreview.com.au/p/supercoat-adult-chicken-be…
      http://www.productreview.com.au/p/supercoat-adult-small-larg…
      http://www.productreview.com.au/p/supercoat-lite-mature.html
      http://www.productreview.com.au/p/supercoat-junior.html
      http://www.productreview.com.au/p/supercoat-sensitive.html

They aren't all positive and they do note the formula changed to add corn which many say isn't a good ingredient for dog food.

If you have large dogs that go through an 8kg bag in a week and a half and you can afford to spend $50/week ($2600/yr) on dry dog food more power to you. Go out and secure a supply of the best stuff your money can buy. But don't pretend anyone who doesn't do that is a monster.

  • Why would an OZBargainer have a pet? This is money to be saved for other bargains!

    • My dogs ARE a bargain ;-)

Cheapest unconditional love you will ever get ;)

        • +1

you should post it on ozbargain then!

        • @skinny:

          Insufficent quantity ;-)

  • This is a popular product that is widely available. It has been posted because this sale price is good.
I agreed this isn't a "Premium" dog food, but as part of a balanced diet, (raw meat, bones & Kibble) this is fine.
