They say it's the biggest shopping of the year (11/11).

Currently to get all three coupons (must be spent in separate transactions), you need to do the following:

  • Download their app and on the homepage it should say get coupon ($4)
  • Sign up for an alipay account when checking out ($5)
  • Current "iPhone exclusive" coupon ($10)

You can get more discount coupons by playing their shake the app game but it's rather tedious. Edit: there's also the cat catching things with a basket game which is easier to collect coins in exchange for coupons.

For those aren't familiar, they're slightly like Amazon and eBay and sell almost everything.

Pro tips:

  • shop with their app as some items will be discounted slightly more
  • they are on cashrewards (so can't use mobile app)
  • some items marked 11/11 special are not necessarily the cheapest
  • some items especially electronics are more expensive than on eBay
  • some items are counterfeits — and you can quite often identify the fakes, unless you don't mind or care

  • "iPhone exclusive" coupon is for iphone purchases?

    • I think that means the coupon banner only appears in the iOS app. Once you claim it the coupon will show up under "my coupons" in your profile which has a "mobile only" tag next to it.

  • Micro SD cards and USB memory sticks that are too cheap are fake.

  • Sweet going to get some snapbacks :) thanks!

Their math is horrid. Discounts are better for cheaper items?

  • ah scratch that.. cashrewards has better cashback for aliexpress than topcashback

one of these might be good for retro gamers

    • Giving Assistant has the $5 bonus sign up offer (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/216048), so even though they only pay 1% cashback, you might come out ahead when compared to Cashrewards depending on your spend amount.

      • topcashback has $10 sign up - you have to get $10 cashback to claim it though. Still waiting on givingassistant to pay out - fingers crossed.

  • Wonder why they dont have paypal.

    • paypal banned them because too many dodgy sellers

they offer Alipay now which gives better buyer protection and same service as paypal. so its all good

no longer have to use credit card

      • Cool thanx

      • Which one is the safest ID to use for AliPay? Passport/License,etc. Or not bother with Alipay and just use a prepaid credit card?

        • what? i never had to show id when i setup my account

i would never show my passport if i could avoid it

anyhow i dont really remember registering with them, i just checked out with alipay via aliexpress and i went through the process that way

if theyve now changed it, then i would use license or as least identifying thing as possible

that being said its not like theyre going to misuse your id anyway

        • @furythree: Applying manually asks these identity questions. My internet search seems to indicate it's more for expats living in China. I'll see if I get a more lenient application process via checkout.

        • I've now tried a different link from AliExpress which didn't require onerous ID.

      • I thought AliPay was just them keeping your credit card number on file so you don't have to enter it each time?

Does AliPay provide more protection that the normal "buyer protection" always offered by AliExpress?

I'm expecting AU$980 worth of Hikvision security cameras to arrive today. Cleared customs in Brisbane yesterday.

That reminds me, does anyone know the AliExpress native currency? I expected USD so I pay in USD as my credit card does not change conversion fees, but on the statement line it says "London GBR"?

        • Bought few hickvision NVR packs from Aliexpress few times, worth 5k+.. never had any issue..

        • @chutibuti: yeah this is my 2nd NVR and 7th HIK IP camera. Very happy with the first system.

New stuff just arrived to home an hour ago, so will check it out tonight, but not expecting any issues as the shop I bought from has been in business for 3 years and has over 200,000 feedback with ~98% positive feedback.

Beware - many of the items in my Wish List have risen in price. The sale price on 11/11 and the coupons will simply return the items too their prior price. Many examples here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Aliexpress/

    • During previous big sales, a search for same items not 50%+ off came out cheaper to buy non sale items. Also fakes are advertised on Aliexpress's front webpage at times. They don't seem to care.
So great place to buy, but have to keep on guard.

    • As far as I can tell, there's not a strict regime surrounding pricing in China, so beware deceptive pricing. There is some opportunity for getting a bargain during the sale, but at the end of the day, its mostly because there are some good bargains on AliExpress all year round, not just because there's a sale. You need to use sellers with high ratings and good ranks, because not all these salespeople have experience with reputation. Mail tracking is also very helpful. In my experience, most of the problems with delivery have been after the package arrives in Australia (e.g. Australia Post forgets to inform me that there is a package at the post office… Happens at least 10% of the time).

I think this post from Reddit seems quite useful:

"I am seller on aliexpress from china , I think the product cost is there , normally the profit is range from 5%-20% , no reason to believe more than 15% discount at 11.11 sales day." itop_james https://www.reddit.com/r/Aliexpress/comments/3ri552/aliexpre…

  • Was keen to get some fake leggings things the missus is after. Hard to nav this and find good feedback ones. I suppose it will be cheap but potluck.

I shop there quite a bit and usually sort under most ordered and then look at the feedback to see what is being said. Finally I resort using free shipping and cheapest first, before I decide to buy. :-)

stupid thing keeps making me enter some 4 letter anti virus thing i make a change to my search criteria

  • Be warned the Aliexpress 11/11 sale event is pretty much a scam. All the items I regularly buy for my business have had the prices jacked up since the event started advertising. The percentage discount on that day is merely equivalent to their regular prices. And this is across multiple sellers (not the same store), so it seems Aliexpress colludes with its sellers so that they are not offering percentage discounts prior to this sale event.

    • +4

      they dont collude

the sellers are just dicks just like the ones during ebay sales.

There are few deals that are decent (I posted one about Cube i7 Stylus (A core M windows tablet with stylus support) which is cheapest I've seen so far. It's probably some price gorging here and there and some sellers don't gorge their price. Though from what I've seen, most places have gorged their price and it's hard to find a good bargain.

  • Who say?
To celebrate people are singles on 11/11.
Not buying into gimmicks and marketing.

I bet Christmas is quiet at your house :)

      • absolutely the opposite. : )

  • These coupons are only available for new users of the app.

    Important to read this

    http://aliholic.com/the-truth-about-11-11-sale/

the TLDR is that prices have been jacked up prior the 11.11 sale, basically pulling the same crap many Aussie retailers do whenever there's an eBay %percentage off sale.

  • Won't use them until they add Paypal as a payment method

  • I'm confused, does this mean the price is only applicable on 11/11 not today (9/11)?

    • Yep. But in reality the savings aren't massive unless you spend $50+.

  • I still can't get the discount prices applied to my cart.

  • when does 11/11 start in australian time?

  • do the coupons have a minimum spend?

  • aliexpress seems to be much cheaper than ebay for many items

  • PAYPAL you ask for ?
It is possible, contact the seller of the item you're interested in and ask if they can accept Paypal as a payment.

I've purchased Convoy torches and accessories from their manufacturer that way.

  • Most 11.11 Sales don't really benefit international buyers much unfortunately.
