Same as the Dollar Shave Club deal I guess with one month free. But these blades are german made so I guess quality might be better. Thanks OP!

Missed that one, just before they shut it down…

    • +3

Is there any proof these razor blades are made in Germany?

        • +8

I think its a valid question.

There's a lot of crap out there (especially razors) that claim to be something when they are not.
I myself have been stung by 'genuine Gillette razors' (from Pharmacy Direct) that were NOT genuine.
Asking where these blades are made directly relates to the their quality and usability.

So being a smartass about letters from the Queen isnt very helpful imo. Just sayin.

        • @UFO: I know a couple of big brand European products, which are made in Thailand but because of technicality can say 'made in Europe' as they have 1 part made there.

        • I don't know about your car but my car has a VIN number that says the country it was built.
I'm happy to pay chinese price if I'm buying chinese razors, but not happy to pay extra just because someone claims on their site they are german. It reminds me the previous guy who was advertising his Australian razor company and only after a dozen of questions he had to admit that his razors were chinese, and he even made things worse by saying his chinese razors are premium quality not like the other crap chinese razors his competitors sell.

        • -4

          @UFO:

Asking where these blades are made directly relates to the their quality and usability.

They have already stated that the blades are made in Germany, asking for proof is pointless as what are they going to provide?

So being a smartass about letters from the Queen isnt very helpful imo. Just sayin.

So what else is proof? It comes down to trust as what stops Gillette from making their razors in India and labelling them as German?

        • You realise supply chain verification is srs biz.

        • @fruit: As well as lying about the origin of the products. In any case I didn't ask any supplier details to be published! IMHO you have the right to know where those frozen berries are coming from…

Guys do yourself a favour, go visit http://paste-and-cut.com.au
They're an Australian based website upon traditional methods of shaving.
The website does not sell anything, you don't have to sign up (I haven't) yet it appears the members there are friendly and helpful, so you may gain benefit by signing up and asking your questions there :)

Read up upon why many Men are returning to the traditional methods of our forefathers.

    • +3

Yeah, I bought an $80 pack from mensbiz with a merkur safety razor, a whole bunch of blades, soap and a brush and I havent had to buy anything since in almost a year. I also still keep my old shick around for the final pass over as I find you can press a bit harder on it to get a really smooth finish without cutting yourself.

      • +1

Safety razors are appealing because they are cheap and are what dad (or grand dad) used to use.
But they are much more time consuming to use… so you aren't really saving anything because it takes so long to use them properly.

A lot of these 'traditional shaving' websites go through a very labour intensive routine that just wouldnt be acceptable to most busy men these days. At least to me and my mates anyway. They sound appealing, but from a practical standpoint your Gillete Mach 3 Turbos etc (as expensive as they are) are still the best bet for quick 'good enough' shaving.

Nothing beats a straight razor cut… but no way I'm spending 30min in front of a mirror every morning.

        • -3

          Why not ?
Are you not worth that time to present your best face to the world ?

        • +1

          @086:

I'd love to have the time mate.
Maybe when I was younger, and if so inclined would definitely 'pamper' myself with the regime proposed by the websites.

But when you got 3 young kids and otherwise work fulltime… that's not going to happen ;).

Maybe later on in life. But most people wont/cant spend that much time in the morning, when for the sake of being ripped off by cartridge razors, I can get the job done in a few minutes.

        • +1

          @UFO:
Why not experiment with it to find what does and doesn't work for you ?
Some folks are down to 5 minutes using the traditional methods.
Perhaps reviewing how they manage to cut down the time will aid you to find the time.

        • 30 min? nope. 15 tops, and i really take my sweet time. Maybe takes 5 minutes more than if I was using just a cartridge razor. And the cut is far superior, like you say so it lasts longer = time saved.

          busy men

I shave once a week, i understand some men have to be clean shaven, but i cant see any man shaving more than once ever 3 days.

        • +1

          @thedude23:

No way I can go 3 days without a shave for work.
Whilst I realise a straight cut gives a much closer shave (I've had it done at a barber a few times on special events), I'd still need to shave every day. Thick black hair shows stubble the next morning no matter what I use.

But 15min for a straight cut?? No way dude. The barber took at least that long, and that was scary enough!

Are you talking about a safety razor, or a single blade straight razor sharpened with leather strap? Maybe we are talking about different things?

        • @thedude23:

more than once ever 3 days

Am I the only person that shaves daily?

        • +1

@UFO: I said safety or double edge razor like this. I never said straight razor…

        • @thedude23:

Ahhh. So you can shave with a safety razor in 15min? I guess that's a nice middle ground between the two, and still very cheap. I don't know why they call them 'safety' razors though, I've still seen some pretty horrendous mishaps with them!

I'd give them a go in the future. Is there a particular one you use/recommend?

Plenty of these shaver websites stipulate a major process in prepping and pampering. You do all that, or just a lather of shaving gel with a nice brush under warm water?

        • +1

@UFO: Yeh about 15 minutes, at an easy pace. If i really cranked i could do it in under 10. Almost the hardest part is mixing the soap into a lather and getting the right consistency, its not an exact science and takes some practice to master the right balance. My process is dabbing a hot facewasher under water (as hot as you can bear)over my face to soften up the hair, lathering up the soap and applying it then shaving. Its recommended to do a few passes and not to go too hard in 1st go as you preparing the skin for the final pass. Watch some you tube videos on how to do it is the best way. Also like i said originally i do a final pass with just normal canned gel and a shick cart razor for the hard to shave spots on my neck to get them real smooth as the cart you can press a bit more to get it ultra smooth which i like. Together with a nice face cream after and i get 'babyface' comments lol.

I was recommended the basic starter pack from mensbiz on the old fashioned shaving sub forum on whirlpool here and budget starter pack here

Ive had it since march so coming up to a year and havent bought anything else yet. Im just an amateur in this world and still learning myself so if you have any serious questions those are the guys to ask as they know their stuff. I still havent yet had to do it as a blade lasts me over a month but you can get like 100 blades off amazon for $15 (say 25 now with the AUD) but that is dirt cheap for 100 blades compared to carts, and i still have heaps from the small pack i got. The feather brand is the pick of the bunch. Paper thin, made in japan and you dont get much sharper than razor sharp! These razors excel if you are especially hairy as they dont clog as much.

          Good luck.

  • Thanks for the free month ! :) looking forward to seeing how this stacks up against DSC

  • How do you cancel if don't want to continue?
EDIT: Found info on their website

  • no blades shaving technology is coming.. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-skarp-laser-razor-21s…

      • nope i knew about their KS campaign cancellation.. thus stated no blades shaving tech is coming, theirs just an example.. i bet more of similar disrupt soon emerge

        • +2

Well it's not really an example considering it's almost certainly a scam.

But yes I'm sure no blades shaving tech is coming. Just like driverless cars are coming. Not really relevant in any way to this deal though.

        • -2

@nexus4: mind you their IGG campaign is still active and going strong.. irrelevant? nahhh, if u've been in ozbargain for long enough you'll see many counter information from comments are heaps better than the deal itself. but good one Troll.

i don't understand why people would want a subscription service …

    • Me neither, have a plus

    • if you have a thick stubble and one who shaves every weekday —> change blades every week or so —-> you want the next cartridges arriving monthly. its convenient actually as ive been using the dollar shave club.

  • Coupon discount is only valid for the first payment :-(

    • +1

Well I wouldnt expect them to give me a continual monthly supply for free, would you? :)

I've just signed up to the free month… if I dont like it I'll cancel beforehand. But its a great way to get new business… offer a freebie to try, THEN buy. It got me signed up (which I otherwise wouldnt have).

I read the title as Occam's Razor

    • occa.ms make a good shave cream actually :)

  • I haven't used the razors before but I can vouch for the shaving oil as being the best I've used on my sensitive skin. Haven't been able to get any since my local supermarket discontinued it so I'm willing to give this plan a go. Thanks

  • +3

I'm happy with aldis blades for now. They may even be made in Germany!

    • +1

      How much are they?

  • +5

After seeing the deal (code AW916)expired, I tried the code AW917 which did not work. Then I tried AW915 which gave me the same discount as AW916.

    Thanks 45Troboi.

    • Awesome! Thought i'd missed out on the deal!

    • +1

OP should update the title and code so that others may take advantage of it.

    • +1

      Thanks.

      Someone should un-expire this deal.

      • Thanks skittle. Just edited and thought I un expired it. Still coming up as expired. Any ideas??

    • Thanks notoriousft. Updated

  • Never mind seems good now. Have a great weekend!!

  • Signed up for the monthly plan for $0.00 with this coupon.

  • +2

I've been using these for the last 3 months and overall I am very satisfied with them (I'm a former Shick Hydro 5 and Gillette Mach 5 user). I've also tried the Aldi Prince razors but gave up on them as I was disappointed with the result. The Oscar Razors do clog a little easier than the brand name ones because the blades are stacked fairly closely but rinse it out frequently and you will be fine. The only negative I can find is they are not as good as getting the hair between your philtrum (the dimple under your nose) and your nostril, but they are exceptionally good value otherwise.

  • I bought one of these razors with 2 cartridges, as I forgot to bring my wash bag when travelling.

It was a 5-blade cartridge, and the head isn't as sophisticated - it's literally vertical, and the tilting and flexing were purely folds in the plastics.

I normally use Gilette Fusion original, also 5-blade cartridges.

Cut myself with with the first shave - literally like grating cheese, took a layer of skin off my chin before I could stop. I checked the blades and there was a layer of skin :-o

So, exercise with caution on your first shave, get used to the angle and lack of give in the head/cartridge.

  • 4 cartridges a month? gee, those germans are really into their shaving.

German engineers spent 7 years developing the patented technology for our blades

  • +1

Why do Ozbargainers not use DE shavers? Blades are sharper than anything else on earth, and they're cheap as hell.

    • +2

      DE?

      • Double edge.

        • Are they as safe as cartridges?

        • @skywalka: it depends how you use them

    • I brought a 100 pack of feathers ages ago and still haven't gone through them all. So much better than cartridges.

  • +1

.de is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Federal Republic of Germany.

These are German blades after all!

….or possibly DE = "Double Edged" razor blade like the razor blades on a thread that magicians swallow/pull out their mouths ;)

  • Good razors, but their web interface/backend really sucks. They're great on email, but you shouldn't have to use email to make simple changes like suspending for a month.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP, for the price of $free I'll give them a go for a month :).

I have really course hair and shave every day, so will be interesting to see how I go.

I'll report back here with my thoughts… I'd be keen to hear how others go with this mob. Would be really nice to not have to deal with the Gillette monopoly price grab anymore.

  • Have been using them for a month and so far so good. The oil and gel are good for my sensative skin. Alone the gel and oil are $11.95 & $9.95 respectively. So you are basically paying nothing for the razor blades and handle. Mind you this is a once off bonus. Cancel anytime. I have as I want to trial it before committing.

Also trialling another subscription service (not for shaving, but still just as important) and so far so good. PM me if you would like to know more. Have a great day!

  • Code is not working anymore :(

  • Got mine today. Seems very cheap and plastic-y. Hopefully they work okay though.

    • +1

Mine haven't arrived yet but if they are cheap and plastic then I'll happily cancel.

      • They shave alright thankfully but you definitely don't want to bend the head back too much

        • Just got mine……

          No handle included!!

Rzor heads without a handle is a failure.

        • Hey albanyson, it should come with a handle, if not email them. Hope you get it sorted.

  • I got mine… nice packaging, but was a little disappointed with the look of the plastic/cheapy shaving heads.

Mind you, THEY SHAVE REALLY WELL!
I guess that's what counts, and will be interesting to see how long the blades last, but so far I'm impressed for price.

The handle is actually nicely weighted… and has a metal core and clasping mechanism for the razor head. My Gillette one is all plastic and cheap crap. So that's another positive.

Will report back in a few weeks to for final verdict, but so far so good… would be nice to not be ripped off by Gillette anymore.

    • My Gillette one(Gillette Fusion Pro Glide Flexball Manual) is mostly metal and very well balanced.I don't like the Power model, the battery affects balance IMO

  • I have been shaving everyday and still on the first blade! Mind you I use mine with a Razor Pit (they claim you can get 150 shaves from one blade). I don't know about 150, but so far have gotten about a month and a half and the blade is still good. You can get it from Shaver Shop. Got the quarterly subscription (12 blades), at this rate will be set for quite a long time to come and only $22!

For those still wanting to try, PM for a referral. You get $10 (not as good, but can still get the monthly plan for only $4 after code applied) off your order and I get a credit of $10.

    • I have been using Razor Pit and half priced Gillette Fusion razors for more than 3 years now every second day. One razor can last months!
