Xbox One Elite Bundle + COD Black Ops III $599 - EB Games

250

Hi guys. Not so much a deal as the Xbox Elite Bundle is only exclusive to EB Games, but for an enthusiast or someone looking to upgrade their current Xbox One, this was pretty sweet.

Xbox One Elite Bundle contains:
Xbox One Elite console with 1TB SSHD (startup and load times are faster)
Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller (this pro controller is $199 as a standalone and is also compatible with the existing charge and play kits. Also PC compatible)

When I went to pick it up today, they gave me a free copy of COD Black Ops III as a last minute decision by Microsoft. I was told I could not accept the game which would have made it down to $520, but since I got $300 trade in for my old beat up Xbox One 500GB (I'm a level 3 customer) which brought everything down to $299, I thought why not.

This kit is serious business. I've been neglecting my PS4 all afternoon :)

Why couldn't you accept the game?

    • I did accept the game. I meant if I chose not accept it, the bundle would have only been $520 and not the $599.

      • +24

So you paid $79 for Black Ops 3? It's $64 at Big w and target. Bad choice man

  • +2

Only way you'll get a Elite controller for another month. It's on back-order everywhere!

    • Yes. My mate who was with me when I picked up my console wanted the controller on its own and was told more will be coming in just before Xmas and the only way to get your hands on one right now is to purchase the Elite bundle. I wonder why Microsoft decided to make the bundle and the standalone controller exclusive to EB Games?

      • +2

The bundle IS NOT exclusive - that is a load of horse crap from EB

You can buy the bundle direct from Micro$oft too

        • +3

Well I would hope that it's available Micro$oft because they're the ones that make it. It's also $599 on their site.

It seems to be exclusive to EB Games in the sense you can't buy it from any other Australian retailer eg. JB Hifi, Target, Big W etc. so essentially you can't price match it lol

  • I picked mine up last night. The elite controller is fantastic.

    • It's awesome. Top notch build quality. Loving the rubber and metal. Still getting used to the hair triggers though hehe. Have you gone with the satellite dish style DPad or just stuck with the original cross?

      • Yeah just using the default setup. I haven't detached anything yet.

I'm going to play some twitch shooters and test this bad boy out tomorrow night!

  • How did you get $300 trade in?

    What's a level 3 customer?

    • +1

The deal was trade a 500gb console and you'll get it for $299. I did it too. Lucky about COD being thrown in. Saved me money as I had $50 down on it.

    • you can also get to level 3 by purchasing game informer at ebgames. Level up the quick way.

      https://gameinformer.com.au/about/subscriptions#print

  • +2

Level 3 customer is achieved through buying and trading with EB Games over a certain amount (can't recall how much sorry). You start off level 1 just by signing up in store and can work up to level 2 quite quickly. Different levels offer different amounts of discounts or extra trade values. I worked up from level 1 to level 3 in about 4 months.

The Xbox One console I traded in was in pretty bad shape (scratches) so I would have only been given around $250 or so, but as a level 3 customer they gave me an extra $50.

    Hope this helps.

  • I pre ordered my elite bundle but yet to pay in full and pick it up. Do you think they will offer my the game as well ie is this a standard promo or do i need to ask for it

    • I didn't even know about the free game and was told it was a last minute thing from Microsoft. The EB Games guy said that their new marketing material for the free copy of COD with the Elite bundle should come out sometime next week, but he did also mention that it was for a limited time. I guess if you're wanting the game, the sooner you pick up your new console, the better.

  • +3

You could opt out of buying the game to get the elite console and controller for $520 then price match another store for Black Ops III e.g. JB HiFi $68.
Your total would then be $588 BOOM!

    • +11

      Your ozbargain level is 3.

      • I hope that's a good thing

      • Level 3 is just like beating piston honda on mike tyson's punchout.

    • Hehe. Not too sure if they would have done that considering it was for this promo. Perhaps an EB Games affiliate here could confirm?

      • Provided OP is correct in saying that you can get it for $520 without the game then their policy suggests they'd have to price-match a standalone purchase of the game

  • Are you sure it would have been $520 if you didn't accept the game? Sounds like the Fallout 4 deal where you get it regardless and only way to get anything off you have to trade back the game. The trade price was no where near $80 though. The invoice is just made out that way, I think it was discussed before.

dlakers3peat: The promo is standard as you can see here: https://www.ebgames.com.au/xbox-one-800543-1TB-SSHD-Xbox-One…

    • I'm not too sure. I can confirm with him tomorrow if you'd like. They know me well at the store and know that I'm not overly a huge fan of the COD series since Ghosts and told me if I didn't want it, that it would get taken off the price of the bundle. I thought I'd take a risk with the new COD and it's okay so far.

    • +1

When I picked mine up this morning they said it was $599 regardless of whether you took cod bo3 or not. So I'll take the free game thanks. Also, it was $10 extra for the 'hardened' edition and they threw in the nuketown map download as well.

  • +1

You should refuse the game! Then buy it again for price match with target $64. Then $584 total. BARGAIN!

    • +2

dang you beat my suggestion by $4

  • +1

Thanks OP, Ive been comtemplating getting the 1tb elite for a little bit now, definitely think I'll go trade my 500gb xbox and some games in and get that instead.

    • Oh you should. The speed of start ups and loading times are there. The console is matte black as not to attract finger art. And did I mention the controller earlier? This is what the controller should have been from the start to complete with the PS4 controller, but then again this is Micro$oft.

  • How do you trade in a console? Also I have a perfect condition 500GB Xbox One, how much would they take? I'm level 1.

    • +1

I saw the poster for it… I think it went something like trade in your 500GB Xbox One console and pay the extra for Level 1 is $379, Level 2 is $349 and Level 3 is $300. As I mentioned earlier, my console was in poor condition. It's probably best if you call ahead.

      • Ahh sweet thanks buddy! And you saw we can not accept the game yes. This is a great deal for upgrading and getting the Elite controler. Thanks for the help and idea!

  • +1

I got the same deal today also.
FYI I did not trade in a controller and that only cost Ten dollars. So my. Deal was $309 .I also traded some games i grabbed cheap thanka to ozbargain but dont think i made any money but did not lose much either. Also my xbox was two years old this month so it feels like I have extended my warranty as well.

Got cod as well unsure if I'll keep it or trade it tomorrow. Wasn't expecting it to be honest.

    • And you are level 3 yes?

      • +1

        Yes I am

        • Ahh nice. I never thought there would be any actual benefits did Eb world but wow I'm wrong!

        • +2

          @Zylam Marex:
If you go to the EB website and log in you can get carrots for silly things like setting up a profile and listing your favorite games etc. Helps level.up.
          Level three 15% extra
          trade credit.

        • @ode1:

Really? LOL wow thanks bro I'm gonna set up my profile. I'm actually pretty amazed at the world thing helping us out, always thought ebgames higher end prices made it more costly, but Gotta say for upgrading a console, level 3 is great. Thanks man!

        • Yeah, their prices are always higher than everybody else's, but they will always price match Target or JB. I know I kinda missed it on this occasion not price matching COD, but at the time I wasn't even expecting to get a free game as when I preordered it, it was just the bundle on its own. But not to worry, I priced matched the preorders for Fallout 4, Tomb Raider and Starcraft for this coming Tuesday ;)

        • @Gau: Fallout 4 is sold out (online at least) at JB hi-fi for $59. So if your local store is out of stock they won't price match. Hence why for awesome deals I never risk pre-ordering from EB with the hope that at release the place I want to price-match will still have stock. Do you have any tricky way to get around this? I price-match everything else just for the sake of free extras that eb offers (posters etc.) and carrots are a bonus I guess.

        • Can't say that I've ever experienced them not price matching a competitor based on stock levels. Usually, I either just walk in to any EB and show them the ad of another retailer on my phone or I just preorder it with price matching and they've always honoured it. I just know that they won't price match online only stores. I believe the EB stands for Electronic Boutique who are owned by GameStop who are massive. I could only imagine what prices they're buying the games for.

  • Hey Gau, do you mind telling me how much GST you were charged? It's at the bottom of the invoice. I'm leaving the country soon and might be able to claim it back! Thanks man!

    • +1

GST was $54.45 my good friend :)

      • Sweet thanks buddy!!! :D!

  • +1

Just a quick note. The mate that was with me today just called and said he ended up trading his Xbox One 500GB console also as a level 3 customer and chose not to take the COD Black Ops III and paid only $250 extra. So I guess they will only take $50 if you choose not to take the game and in my case of $79 was a "special" one :)

Considering the Elite controller is $199 on its own, that seems pretty sweet if you look at it as he upgraded his old console to the new one for only $50 that has the 1TB SSHD and he got his hands on the controller he's been drooling over for months.

    • +1

Yea this is an epic deal, get 1TB SSHD to top all that off too!!

      • That's the least appealing thing for this. The better load times are marginal for boot ups and won't make too much different with games. The actual SS component of this hard drive is only 8gb.

Might as well buy yourself an external 1tb HDD with 7200rpm if you've already got an Xbox one.

You'd be buying this for the controller. Really only appeals to new customers in my opinion. I still havent bought one having mulled over it for a few weeks (since a couple weeks before target deals). This is reasonably tempting though.

        • Really, the 1TB SSHD isn't too much of an addition?, for me it was the main reason, I mean apart from the controller which is absolutely amazing. I'm really considering buying an external drive now, however these level 3 guys are getting crazy deals, I just called my Eb and they were telling me it would be about 270-80 for me to upgrade with trading in black opps. I don't think it's worth it than.

        • +1

          @Zylam Marex:

Phil Spencer has said he doesn't think its worth upgrading if you've got an existing Xbox one! But if you're the elite chaser then its a no brainer.

          http://m.au.ign.com/articles/2015/09/18/xbox-boss-xbox-one-o…

        • In your case, you're essentially getting $270 as a trade in for your old console as you'll be paying $280 for the console without the game. As someone mentioned earlier, it's like renewing the 2 year warranty but you get an improved console and a kick ass controller. Most people are selling their Xbox Ones on Gumtree for around $300 negotiable.

I think it's worth it if you're after the controller and not too particularly interested in the game. That's the main reason why I upgraded. The controller on its own is $199 which even I think is a hard pill to swallow, but as a bundle it made it more bearable knowing I have the improved console, warranty and the controller.

Adding to the fact it's the only way to score the controller right now anyways unless someone is selling theirs on eBay.

        • @Gau: just bought the last one in carindale #yolo

        • Just the controller on its own? Lucky you. My mate would have preferred the controller just on its own Initially. In the end, I think he's happy it worked out only to be $50 to have his console upgraded and the new controller.

        • +1

          @Gau:

I bought the same bundle as you. Elite console and BO3. Also they wouldn't price match target with BO3.

        • @geo365: So it seems to be true with the controllers being on back order. Thanks for the heads up as a few of my mates where hunting around QLD stores just for the controller. I'll tell them not to bother lol.

Wonder why they wouldn't price match your COD? At least that has answered my ponderings on whether or not they would have price matched COD at the time of picking it up as many have suggested :)

        • Actually your best bet is to get as large as HDD as possible.

So a fast USB 3.0 3TB+ HDD would be better as larger HDDs transfer more data per rotation than smaller drives. A 3TB 5,400 RPM can transfer more data than a 1TB 7,200 RPM when using the outer edge of the HDD, which is the first data to be installed.

So upgrading to 1TB XBox One maybe good in one way, or you can use that money to get your 500GB to use a fast 3TB/4TB/6TB external HDD.

  • Is this deal just available for trade-ins or also new purchasers? Even if you can resell the COD game (if it's not your fancy) for $60 (+ $2-3 fees) on eBay it still works out to be a 10% discount which is pretty big for an Elite bundle (have they ever been discounted?)

  • It's now a standard promo as pointed out earlier by 4892. I don't think they're gonna be discounted anytime soon being an exclusive and only just been released officially yesterday.

    The link is https://www.ebgames.com.au/xbox-one-800543-1TB-SSHD-Xbox-One…

  • the ssh would be interesting , how much is ssd and how much is std hd ….. i put an ssl in the ps3 (had a spare 250gb) made no difference in speed, but it is quieter.

wish upgrading the drive in xbox one was as easy as ps3 and ps4.

    • I dont believe Microsoft would commission any kind of special OEM hard drive, so I'm gonna go with that's it's more than likely a Seagate SSHD. Assuming this is the case, then it would be only 8GB SSD + 1TB 5400 RPM. Not exactly ground breaking, but it does help with the startup times and loading times of some games if played frequently as it pre caches the mostly used files.

  • Does anyone know whether this deal applies if you buy the Elite bundle from the online Microsoft Store? I pre-ordered mine from there and it hasn't arrived yet (should arrive on Monday I guess).

From what the OP said, it sounds like this was a Microsoft bonus (rather than an EB initiated bonus) - so I'd assume MS Store pre-orders will get it too. It would be pretty disappointing not to get it! It's already bad enough that the pre-order didn't arrive on Friday like it should have - I could walk into an EB Games right now and get it immediately and guarantee the free BO3 bonus.

Has anyone received their pre-order from the MS Store and can verify whether they got a copy of BO3 in the box?

    • Not too sure there. Can't see the inclusion of COD anywhere on their site. Surely it may have been added last minute to compete with other currently bundles on offer from other retailers. But they didn't have to as the only way to get yourself this bundle or controller on its own is through them or Microsoft. Kinda like a niche thing. The guy at EB told me it was Microsoft's idea to include the game. So who knows, perhaps you could call Microsoft to persuade them to include it in your order.

      • Yeah, they don't mention it anywhere. But as you said, EB Games didn't mention it anywhere either but it has since popped up on their site very quickly (like they weren't expecting it and it was a last minute thing).

The fact that the guy told you it was MS who did it, rather than EB gives me hope. Was the game literally inside the Xbox Elite box like Microsoft had added it at the factory, or was it more a case of them getting a copy off the shelf and giving it to you?

Yeah I will call MS and whinge and complain if I don't get it, I just hope I don't have to. :)

        • Straight off the shelf (back room). Hope it works out for you buddy :)

  • Can someone confirm that the trade-in deal is over? I've just called my local EB and they said that value trade-in was only for pre-orders.

    • That's strange. My mate traded his in just before closing time yesterday. He had not preordered it. It was only just officially released yesterday.

      • +1

hey, all good. the main store in my area is just anal. i called up a different one after posting and they were happy to do it no problem.

kept the controller, but needed to pay an extra $10, worth it imo.
traded in the kinect for $5, haha. i can't believe how little it's worth.

traded in my old games as well while i was at it. came down to around 200, which is the price of the controller which is all i really wanted, perfect that it came with cod, because that's the game i was buying it for!

        • I'm happy for ya champ.

Haha. The Kinect was a bit of a disaster. I kept it for like an week after buying my original XB1 console and gave it away to a mother of 3 lol.

Yeah, I guess you gotta call around your local EB stores. Would be nice if they were all uniform across the board. Would save a lot of confusion.

  • +1

Hi just picked up my elite xbox with cod 3 black ops thrown in. The trade in value at eb games was a pathetic $36 do i obviously took the game. Can sell the game on ebay for $60 i think.

    • Seems as though various EB stores are inconsistent and it comes down to the pot luck. I got was offered $79 … my mate got $50 offered… another user here was told he couldn't get anything at all for trading in COD.

    • Sold the game for $60 on ebay including fees.

  • Hi,

just traded in my xbox one 500 gb m a level one customer so had a to pay $349 to the deal on the top of that they added another $15 … 5 for hdmi and 10 for controller …

I decided not to take that game so got the trade in price of $36 …( cant be bothered with reselling )

    in total i paid $328…

has anyone else had to pay extra $15 for hdmi and controller?

    • WTF? What do you mean you had to pay $15 for the HDMI and controller? I'd be going back there and questioning that. The HDMI is an Xbox branded one that should have been included in the box. As for the controller, it's a part of the Elite bundle so why did you get charged for it??

      • he said coz i didn't bring hdmi and controller with my xbox one that i am trading in … i have to pay for the items that i didnt bring for trade but were a part of original xbox one packaging….

        • Ah I see. Okay. Yeah. Another user here was also deducted $10 because he didn't include his original controller.

    • yep, my friend kept his controller and hdmi cable on purpose which added an extra $15 on.

      • Yeah. Perhaps I should have done the same with my HDMI. It's a nice one and much better quality than the other $5 yum cha brand cables out there.

    • Keeping a controller for $15 is surely a good deal.

  • Does anyone else think $199 for a controller is ridiculous?

    • +1

Yes $199 for a controller is ridiculous but bear in mind no one is forcing you to buy it :)

      • im glad lol… i dont even have an xbox one :p

  • When will this offer end?

  • if you read the small print it's only for pre-orders of new consoles… traded in my day one xbone for the elite bundle and paid 299 (kept the headset and kinect and got 110 off for trading in a few games) paid 189. i picked it up and received a free game… COD. got home… set it up and started playing. after a while i noticed the power light on the actual console wasn't working. could play games but couldn't tell if it was on or not by the light. sigh… rang the store and explained the problem. they would replace it if the had any more in stock. (they didn't… all were put aside for preorder) but said if i went to another EB store with the receipt and they had stock they would replace it. two phonecalls and a 60 kilometer drive later i got my faulty console replaced and another copy of COD for my trouble.

  • …is it me or does the eb website bundle listing no longer include cod.. :(

    • I just walk in to ebgame at chatswood and trade in my xbox one 500gb and got a free fallout 4…

It's time to sell off the game now.
