Bulk Buying Beer in ACT

Hey guys,

So I'm looking at buying a fair amount of beer for an exhibition opening (somewhere between 500-1000 bottles more or less), and I'm on the hunt for a way to keep the budget down. Does anyone have any ideas or past experiences that could help me?

I've tried going into some smaller bottleshops, who just pointed me to Dan Murphy's and First Choice, both of which quoted me either the retail price or a few dollars a case off it.

Thanks guys!

    @gooddealmate That's a good suggestion.

    This one is about $1.25 a beer. They will let you order 20 cases. get at mate to order another 20?

    All the best.

  • you might want to consider asking a local brewery to sponsor you. they love doing that kinda stuff.

  • hey OP, I used to work for a chain liquor store… lets call them MiquorMand.

    Anyway, the markup on beer is actually very little*. So a few bucks of each case sounds right to me. That's probably the maximum you're going to get from the retail side of things.

    There are occasionally a few deals that have been organised through a supplier. Many years ago TEDs offered a 2 for $62 promotion (or something like that). It was so cheap that other liquor stores would come by and buy them.

    Odds were, dan murphys could even be cheaper. It's not the liquor stores stiffing you, that's their "cost price". By cost price i mean the price they get it through the supplier system.

    *5-6% comes to mind, but i can't confirm that.

    Oh and when you go to the liquor stores, don't bother with anyone but the 2IC or manager. Managers are usually in during weekday mornings and leave in the mid afternoon.

  • A lot of smaller retailers buy their alcohol at Dan's to resell. It is cheaper to do this than from the supplier.

    Your small order won't net you the kind of prices you're hoping for.
