I was in desperate need of a bigger bag and I found this at Anaconda, it's big but not too big and has very thick, comfortable straps, also includes a detachable day pack, a built in rain cover and loads of zips and buckles. Not a show stopping bargain but definitely something to consider if you're in need of a new hiking or travel bag. Then again I'm not an expert hiker but for the average person like me this is great.

  • looks good i might go pick one up. ^^ sorry accidently negged your comment

  • is it airline carry on size?

na not standard economy carry on anywa.

    • Well unfortunately no, but that's the beauty of the detachable bag on top. If you need something plane size just take a regular backpack I guess.

      • Wait, if you take the off the extra bit of the bag it is small enough for airline carry on?

        • from my understanding, yes, assuming you don't pack it to the brim, i.e. a little bit compressable.
50L is generally the MAXIMUM carry-on size. but depends on the shape, airline and how packed the bag is.

  • OP, how about the waist strap, it doesn't seem big / sturdy enough to reduce load on shoulders. Can you actually walk comfortably with the backpack supported on your waist? Like, the entire harness doesn't look very adjustable and convenient, apart wide straps maybe.

    • Sorry I'm not completely understanding the question. The shoulder straps can be moved higher or lower on the bag which adjusts the height of the waist strap at the same time. I've loaded it up with what I'm hoping to live with for the next month and I'm finding it easy to carry. Hopefully I've answered your question, if not let me know.

      • Perhaps it's just me wearing heavy backpacks in a way it's mostly supported on my back (on the hip belt) and shoulder straps loosened a bit. This way I also have more air flow between me and the backpack. So for me this backpack doesn't seem to have enough padding at the bottom. Never mind!

    • Hi,
I don't know about this specific pack (the only Denali item I have is a day pack), but do remember Denali is a low end brand for hiking packs, and you tend to get what you pay for with these. I would not expect Deuter / Tatonka like quality (but you would pay more than double for those, even on sale): http://shop.adventure-link.com.au/deuter-quantum-55and10/dp/…

I have learned from experience this is not something to skimp on - the packs last ages and your body will thank you.

  • I had this travel pack about 2 years ago. All 4 of the zipper tags broke off the first time I used it on a one month trip in China. I exchanged it for a replacement pack at anaconda when I got back but the same thing happened to the zippers on the next trip. Also the circumferential stitching around the bag below the zipper line came completely undone too. I gave up and threw it out.
Personally I would spend a bit extra and go for a different brand.

  • went and had a look, bag was heavy, and his zippers where very dodgy. definitely didnt buy.
