Is this Optus mobile deal good?

hi

optus just gave me a call and offered my one of their $29month for 24month cap plans for only a 12month plan instead plus 3 months free.

I assume the phone will be unlocked after 12months and I am not locked into any contract after that.

Phone choices are Nokia 5730 Xpress Music, Nokia 6700 classic, BlackBerry 8520, Sony Ericsson C903 & Nokia E71

Is a 12month contracrt with 3 months free a good deal with optus, could i do better with another provider?

  • Sound good to me, provided that you are interested in one of the phones on offer.

  • not a bad deal… Did they provide you with the phone no?

  • are you on contract with optus at the moment?
seems like a nice deal to me, i'm interested but don't think i can get it as i'm only on optus prepaid and not contract.

  • maybe i got the deal details wrong,

they called me from this number 0399377700

I am optus prepaid have always been

  • There is another deal I was offered that isn't published on their site (at least not that I could find). $29/mth, 12mth contract, BYO phone, $300 optus to anyone, then $160 optus to optus.

If you don't need a new phone, it could be a better option.

  • just got a call back from them, my bad, the deal realy is:

    $29month you get:
    $150 credit
    $160 credit only to optus
    3 months free
New phone of only 2 choices: Nokia 2730 or Motorolla v3

or you go on 24months and get Nokia E1

Phones not as sweet so not good for me.

  • Just remember those "huge" credits are often inflated, i.e. the per minute (or more often per 30 seconds) rates are higher. For example, to take prepaid plans, on the talk and text plan, flagfall is 10c, and 10c per 30 seconds = 20c per minute. On the turbo plan they give you 5 times more credit, but the per minute rate is 78c, almost negating the "huge" bonus.

Also beware that some of the text credit is only to Optus mobiles or sometimes only to Optus prepaid mobiles. I "won" some 300 SMSes but they are useless to me as they are only to other Optus prepaids and I know nobody like that. And would I wear out my thumbs texting all day? That's why they hand them out so readily, they know you will never use them.

It's all part of the game called confuse the consumer played by mobile providers.
