RACQ Help Required

Hi Guys.

My question is regarding what to do about RACQ membership as I have just sold the car it covered and I haven't bought another one yet.

I want to delete the old car from my RACQ account and I can change my cars details but there is no option to leave it blank, so in effect I can't change the details.

I have asked RACQ online to delete the car from my account and suspend the account - as no car is being covered with my volition - and I am getting no response.

This is in stark contrast to recent enquiries I have made of them regarding other issues, which they addressed promptly, almost immediately once or twice.

Getting no response I wonder what is going on, are they avoiding telling me I can't have no car covered because that would allow me a suspension of account and they don't want that - it's all about the money, or they don't know what to do?

Am I being unreasonable? Should I forget it and just leave it until I get another car or escalate the matter with RACQ or other?

  • Just leave it , the new owners cannot use the service without your card.

    • Good point, didn't occur to me.

It could still be a while before I have another car though. Meanwhile I'm paying for a service I don't/can't use.

Thought about calling, or going into a branch?

    • Yup, call. Big organisations always ignore any non standard email requests.

    • Yes, thought about it, but want it in writing. And my hearing is poor, especially on the phone. No RACQ office around me.

It won't matter that it's in writing, but the best bet is to get on the phone, amplify the speaker somehow or ask someone else to make the call while you're there.

        • Thanks. If they won't get back to me by email I'll get on to them another way.

          It does matter though.

          $99 - It's the principle …

11 months, but I'll have to get another car soon anyway.

  • Surely there would be a process in place that would allow them to either transfer a new vehicle to your existing account and to cancel your account out right. That being said, I'm also sure that a select few people in the company get paid to do this in comparison to the army processing potential new business. It sucks but all businesses are sales businesses. They want your money first and foremost. Everything else is secondary.

    • There is but I don't have a new vehicle yet and with nothing to replace the old details with I can't change or delete them.

Good point, all businesses are sales businesses. And the best do sterling CS, or used to. They were very good on other matters, as indicated.

  • Ok, I rang them and it's as suspected. Membership is for a period of 12 months and can't be paused or suspended. It can of course be cancelled, and I didn't ask about it but I suspect there would be a penalty in that anyway.

    Thanks again guys, appreciated.

  • We've been with them for years, and when we switched from an older car which we had had covered with the membership to a new car that came with 5 years roadside assist included, they switched us over to 'associate members' which kept us all the benefits of membership, including accrued years of membership, but no roadside assistance. From memory it was costing us about $20 per year.
