Espresso Machine - Breville BES920 & Smart Grinder

Update: it's actually the BEP920 that has the grinder, not the BES920. So billy guyatts it is! Final price was 1322.02 and $100 cash back. When I paid, there was a mysterious discount that appeared to reduce it from the marked price. Called them and got the last one. Thanks for your help.

My beautiful wife is getting me an espresso machine, and after much consideration I decided the BES920 is a good choice. I want a top end prosumer machine, but without the price tag of the Italian models (such as the Rocket R58).

So, I'm now looking for a good deal on this machine.
I would prefer to buy from a bricks and mortar store - also a member of the entertainment book (VIC) if that helps to buy discounted vouchers.
For B&W it's about $1400 with cash back, which is not a good price.
From eBay it's about $1300 and unsure about cash back, so assume it would be fine so $1200 (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Breville-BES920-Dual-Boiler-Espre…).

Any thoughts? If only (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/154394)

Thanks

Wait for another 20% Ebay sale, and cross your fingers that the GG already has it on sale.

I bought the machine during the Ebay sale above. It's awesome.

    • Thanks, that's a good option but my wife won't let me wait! Last time she let me wait for a present so I could chose it myself was two years ago and I still haven't purchased it!!!

  • +1

In the past they have been in the $1100's that I know of (I was offered it at $1180 at Myer not during a sale). If you can wait maybe Myer would be a good option if you can buy their gift cards at 10% bonus and wait for a good sale there.

    • Thanks, good idea. Had a bit of a look but cannot seem to get the cards at a discount, any ideas or just need to wait?

      • +1

Yep. If you wants a bargain you has to wait. He who has to buy now pays top dollar.particularly pre Christmas. Chump prices.

        • Totally. But I'll get a shiny new thing!

  • +1

Maybe David jones with ent book 10% off gift cards. It's $1444.15 there.

    • Not bad, also should get the 100 cash back. However, their website doesn't mention the smart grinder, so I'll check tomorrow.

      • +1

No (the smart), but the machine is not sold by itself - not listed on Breville site alone. And Rp on DJ site is the full $1699 so should have grinder. Odd they don't mention it though. Ok price with cashback then about 1200.

        • Great, thank you!

$1919 for the 980 too after gift cards and cashback

    • Kind of a cool model, but prefer manual mode and separate grinder.

      • The 980 can be used as a manual, but also the auto bits, if you want, work really well. The 920 is probably a more sensible buy though being so much cheaper. I have the 980 at home and smart grinder with sunbeam 6910 at GF's place. Smart grinder really lifted the quality of coffee out of the 6910. 920 should be a good machine. I'm trying to persuade a relo to get one so I can try it.

Next pressie from wife should be behmor roaster. Tell her it saves money - green beans are so cheap.

        • Lol roasting my own beans is so way too much effort but economical. Torn.

        • @bargdebarg: yes, can be a pain, but green beans store for years, so can buy in bulk. Can also do just what you need. Before I was buying heaps in an order from online roasters to get free shipping. Then they go stale. Now I roast extra and sell them and it pays for my coffee too.

        • @wfdTamar: that is ozbargs dedication. Thankfully I buy 2kg online cheap but beautify roasted beans, and split with a friend. Then I vacuum seal the rest in smallish bags and use over a few weeks. Foodsaver is awesome. How long did it take you to learn roasting?

        • @bargdebarg: get an OK result within a couple of roasts, but finally got equal of online ones after letting it roast longer. Say 20 roasts. A roast does 400 grams and takes 20-30 mins, but you can do other things while it happens.

        • @wfdTamar: epic ozbargsness

Billy Guyatts got it for $1349 plus $100 cash back. says pick up at store.

    • Should be $1119 from DJ, if it were you any preference on after sales support?

      • $1199 isn't it? Support comes from Breville so retailer is irrelevant.

        • you want retailer support as thats who you return faulty goods to, should not have to deal with the manufacturer at all.

        • Oh yeah my bad 1199. I guess both retailer and manufacturing support is ideal

      • I dont see it on DJs site (can see the Black version for $1444.

I am in Qld so I would choose DJ for support but I remember the Billy Guyatt name from when I was a kid living in Melbourne, I assume they are OK seeing theyve been around forever.
Also visit Good Guys and JBhifi and ask for the best price, you might be lucky

        • I saw it on left of the black model page at DJ

          @wfdTamar:
I see it now, $1444, is there some discount code?

oh, the Ent Book, got it now.

    • Got it from them, a further discount applied at check out so final price with cash back is 1220.20

      • That's not too bad for a rush job. All you need now is a knock box and some good beanz. If you buy online get some stuff to clean it too.

        • Picked up a small knock box about two years ago from a garage sale for $1 and two kilos of Bay beans are to be delivered tomorrow! Although one kilo goes to my friend

  • +1

David jones deliver free too for anyone not near one. (Like us in Tassie). Good delivery too.

  • Seems the grinder may be by voucher straight from Breville.

    • That would be annoying. I'll call DJs tomorrow

  • David Jones online, bought with discounted Gift Cards from Ent Book, and utilising cashback from CashRewards

    $1444.15
    -10% (GCs) = $1299.73
    -$100 Cashback = $1199.73
    -10% (of $1444.15) Cashback (Cashrewards) = $1059.73

Edit Sorry scrub the Cash Rewards part :(

Rewards will not be paid when you purchase a Gift Card/s. Rewards will not be paid on any purchase when a Gift Card/s is used as full or part payment of a purchase.

  • The other thing you may miss with buying using gift cards is any credit card warranty cover (mine gives an extra year of warranty, 2 years price protection and 90 days accident or theft cover)

  • It's back at $1699 now at DJ. That's actually better. Buy using cash rewards and price protected credit card (eg. Coles MasterCard). Keep an eye out for reduced price and claim difference back later from MasterCard.

    $1699 - $169.90 = $1529.10

Possible $500? price protection claim = $1029.10 with 1 year extended warranty.

    • Argh was going to buy tomorrow!

    • It's still actually discounted but at checkout
