Where to Look for First Car

Hey Guys, looking to purchase my first car and not sure where to look, at the moment i'm scouring gumtree and carsales. Also got told to check out auctions but not sure where a good one would be or if they're actually cheap. Anyone know any other good places to scour?

Cheers

Gumtree and carsales are your best bet. But you need to monitor it constantly and when something good comes up act fast, cash in hand & bargain hard. So many 2nd hand dealers out there you must compete with to get the good deals.

You sound like you don't really know what you are doing. That's not a criticism. Please take someone with you, who does, when you see any cars.
Get them looked over by a professional and make sure you know what you are buying (any damage, repairs, money owing, road legal, stolen…etc…etc…)

    • Yeah i pretty much have no idea what to even look for on the ads, like how each year make is different etc. Any tips on that? But when i go i was planning using the NRMA mobile car checkup service.

      Cheers

      • do you have anyone local that can help you? (i mean to try and help you find what you want before you get an inspection)

  • How much do you have to spend?

  • *what do you need the car for? i.e. how much will you be driving?
*how old are you? (you say it's your first car so I'll assume under 25) -i.e. sports car = expensive insurance for younger drivers.

  • Looking to spend 7k ideally. I'm 21 and will mostly be driving on weekends just out and stuff. Sensible me is telling me to get a corolla however been tempted by a civic/golf.

How much exactly more in repairs/maintenance/insurance would it be? I heard it's more but is it like significantly more. I don't mind paying a bit extra for running costs as i have a full time job etc.

    Cheers

  • Have you had a look at Pickles Auctions?

I have heard good things from a few friends who have gone through them in the past. Most vehicles are ex government so should be well looked after with there servicing requirements ect… and come with warranty's I believe.

I will be looking at Pickles with my next purchase, you can even browse/bid online and see whats available, however a local pickles auction may have a lot more vehicles to choose from?
