Frog Colony in Neighbours Backyard That Do Not Stop Croaking

Hi guys

I would really appreciate some advice on what to do with this situation:

Our neighbour is an old lady who lives by herself and has done so for about 30 years. She does not maintain her property - her backyard has a pool in it with swamp like features: algie, rotten water and worst of all a colony of frogs.

These frogs will not stop croaking. They will go from about 7pm at night to the early hours in the morning, like 2am. Some of them have even spread to our garden out the front of our house. How can I get rid of these creatures without getting an exterminator in? I'm thinking of going to my local council to get this sorted out.

Teach her to cook French cuisine

    Check with council. (as stated)

    They can advise correct procedure.

Sounds like she and the frogs were there first.
    Why dont YOU move.

Ribbit Ribbit Ribbit Ribbit Ribbit Ribbit

  • Ear plugs?

  • Ok firstly have you tried speaking with the old lady? Pools take time to maintain. Obviously in the past she might have done it but now she physically might not be able to. Does she definitely still live there?

I'm surprised she/her family have just left it. When the time comes for her to sell it will cost her family a lot of money to fix.

To fix the frog problem as others have said the frogs are probably protected/ native so you can't get a exterminator in.

They will go from about 7pm at night to the early hours in the morning, like 2am.

Annoying I can understand but not like it is all night…

Do you really want to be complaining to a old lady?

Okay I got this. What you need are some pet animals that are higher in the food chain than those pesky frogs! You know, ones that hunt frogs..

You let it get used to your back yard. You slowly feed it less and less. Let it be annoyed by frog sounds day after day. You train it to jump the fence. Add a mini training trampoline if you have to. Be wary that you need one on the other side of the fence too else they can't ninja back to your yard. Let nature take care of the rest.

    • else they can't ninja back

May only jump half as high on return with a belly full of frogs.

  • Catch them and export them to China….a little side business generating $$$$$

  • Sounds like the pool would be a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to dump a decent amount of pool chlorine in there and see if that clears up both problems. If you are on good terms with the neighbour and feel generous, perhaps you could offer to help her with the pool maintenance. Even if it's just once every 6 months to "reset" the pool - she pays for the required chemicals, you get them from the shop and put a generous quantity in the pool.

I reckon frogs are cool. Sure, they are a bit noisy, but you get used to that. I'd rather have frogs than mozzies.

  • I would much rather a quick spray of aerogaurd then the constant torture into your sleep every night.

It'll only be torture if you let it. Get used to the sound, embrace it and you'll sleep through in no time. I find that there are some noises that will keep me awake, and only becuase I find them annoying. People live next to train lines and major highways and after a while don't even notice.

      • Its a good point though getting use to it may take some time if at all.

  • Frogs or mosquitoes?

    I hate them both lol

  • Update please?

What an epic whinger! What will the OP be complaining about next? Magpies and Kookaburras making noise when the sun comes up? Cicadas in summer? The wind blowing too hard? Rain on the roof?
