Vodafone 3G has signal but no internet?

Recently ported over to Lebara from the Optus 4G network to take advantage of the Groupon deal they had a couple weeks ago.
While I understand the Voda network receives a lot of criticism, I thought living in Sydney CBD shouldn't be much of a problem for me coverage wise, even if Lebara is 3G only.
Now I've got a bit of a problem, since ported over, I've got pretty good coverage on Voda 3G, but a lot of the times there's no actual internet (but when there is internet, speeds are pretty good). To explain in detail, on the signal bar I can see H (hspa) with pretty much full bars all the time, but half the time I can't actually browse or do anything that requires internet (the screen just hangs there doing nothing/loading).
Is this a common issue with the Voda 3G network? Are you guys getting this, too?

  • The main improvements to vodafone have been on their 4G network. Their 3G network is still rubbish. Unless it says 3G next to the signal bar you don't have 3G.

I assumed you moved because its cheaper but you get what you pay for on Lebara

    • It does say 3G next to the signal bar though. (Shows H, which is 3.5G)

      • What phone do you have?

        • G4

  • I've had a similar issue in Adelaide during "commute hours" in the afternoons. My guess is that it's latency caused by congestion although maybe it's something to do with Android. I say the latter because usually turning mobile data off then on again fixes it for me.

  • Had the same issue when I was on Lebara… After hours the phone trying to fix the issues I ported out to Vodafone and no more problems even though it is technically the same network.

  • Get your phone to download a new configuration. E.g. on my Sony Android, it's Settings > More… > Internet Settings. It might be in a slightly different location depending on your phone.

Most likely your phone not using the correct settings
    Lebara uses a different apn

My money is it having nothing to do with vodafone and everything to do with your handset settings

  • Checking your settings is a good idea actually. Though shouldn't it auto detect your settings? Especially if it works some of the time ?

OP can you check the voda/lebara coverage maps with your address?
