Items Going "Missing" in The Post

In the the last 3 months I have had 2 different parcels go "missing" in the post. The first parcel was deemed missing and I received a full refund from the "group deal company". The parcel eventually arrived but 3 months late and with only 1 of the 3 items I had ordered.

Now I have reported another parcel missing from another company. This time it was for 3 items which were all "freebies" but you had to pay for postage which, in this case, amounted to > $25. The company is offering to give me a full store credit but I've asked for a refund instead.

I'm wondering if perhaps there is a scam whereby they don't actually send the freebies and just collect and keep money for postage.

Given the items were free can I legally claim a $25 refund of the postage?

  • Shit happens.

I ordered a shirt from Sammy Dress which never turned up. Not too concerned as it was like $12. It happens sometimes.

  • if they want to give you store credits threaten them with a chargeback on your credit card and they will quickly refund you as it will cost them more in chargeback fee's

  • Try and request tracking numbers when you make purchases online.

The stores should already use them.

  • +1

Did you report the loss to Aus Post? The chances of loss are very, very low. To happen twice tells me there's something fishy going on. As cupcake says, a tracking number would also be useful.

    • The company says they will follow up with Aus Post and let me know the outcome. It is outside the "normal delivery period" (39 days).

I always thought Aus Post was very reliable but after 2 missing items (from different companies) in the last few months, I'm starting to question how reliable they are. The first parcel did have tracking available and I saw it arrive in NSW but it didn't move from there, then disappeared. The company were good and provided a refund.
