Cheapest Place for Dr. Martens Boots?

Hi all,

As per title, am after suggestions on where to buy some Dr. Martens.

Specifically I'm after the classic 1460 8-ups in a brown / cherry colour.

This deal would have been good, but expired ages ago:

  • Aliexpress sells them for US$42 delivered but whether they are genuine …..

I bought a pair last week and am waiting for drlivery.

    • Almost no way they are genuine. However, the quality might still be decent.

      • received them today. quality is quite decent. I've had 5 pairs of DM boots over the years and these seem very reasonable. I'm satisfied with the purchase

        • Hmm. Will they last as long as genuine ones though? Time will tell I guess.

Is it possible for you to post some photos of them? Or a link where you purchased?

@mr626: here's the link they have gone up by 3 dollars.

if you've had DMs before and your foot size is larger than a DM/UK 10 then these won't fit. I bought the largest size - US10.5 and that is the perfect size for my foot when wearing explorer socks and I'm a US 11/ UK 10.

the photos in the are pretty spot on. the aircushioned sole doesn't have the DM logo on it. the outer side of the boot, up near the top -online with the second top lace hole- is stamped with "Dr Martens, aircushion soles"

        • @altomic:

Thanks for the reply, link doesn't seem to work though.

@mr626: sorry about that. how about this one

        • @altomic:

          Awesome, thanks for that.

They actually don't look that bad- certainly don't look like fakes. I wonder if it's possible that they are the real deal (as in, made in the same factories as the 'real' ones) but sold as generic for some reason?

          Regardless, thanks for the link.

        • Hi there - so it's been a few years - how are the boots going now? I'm not interested in brands - just good boots. Would you recommend yours (although of course I might not find any equivalent now) or stick with brands just for quality and longevity.

        • @saxlady: hi, unfortunately I live in Brisbane and the last couple of winters have been mild so I have only worn them once or twice. so I can't on quality after considerable usage. sorry.

    • Thanks, but not interested in fakes.

  • Any other suggestions?

  • probably not the answer you want but
they are made in China now, nowhere near the same quality as the UK made ones unfortunately
in my opinion not worth the premium price anymore

    • I was debating whether or not to mention this in my post but:

I'm aware that they aren't all made in the UK any more (I believe they are mostly made in Thailand, although you can pay extra to get 'made in UK' ones).

Personally, I owned a pair from back when they were only made in the UK, and I currently own a Thai-made pair. In my experience the Thai made ones are fine- have had them for 5 years now and seem to be lasting just as well as the UK ones.

  • I had ones made in China and they were horrible
very stiff leather that I couldn't soften
    sold them on ebay

edit maybe the Thai ones are better - the ones I had were definitely made in China

I purchased from the deal you listed, and they were made in Vietnam. The leather does feel very stiff, time will tell whether they loosen up.

About 15 years ago I paid £20 for a pair of blue 10 hole steel capped DMs at Greenwich markets :)

steel cap DMs. gotta love them

when I loved in london my house mate worked at Ikea. ikea provided subsidized steel cap 8up Docs for employees. my mate got 2 pairs somehow and didn't need both so sold a pair to me for 4 pints. best boots ever. had them for 2 years. I remember the first time I accidentally dropped a pallet on my foot whilst wearing them - "awesome - I'm pallet proof"
