Xbox One Purchase This Week

Hi all,

I need to buy an Xbox One before Friday for my sons 8th birthday.

Preferably 1Tb, however doesn't have to be. 2 controllers required.

In your opinion - What are the best deals out there right now ?

Cheers

  • This bundle for $449 is 1TB console + FIFA 16 and EA Access

    Extra Controller
with play & charge for $80 if your local DSE has stock
or with play & charge at HN for $84

Best value around. Ea Access is a 12 month subscription and includes free full versions of games to play like:

    • Battlefield 4
    • Battlefield Hardline (coming October)
    • Dragon Age: Inquisition
    • EA Sports UFC
    • FIFA 14
    • FIFA 15
    • Madden NFL 15
    • Madden NFL 25
    • NBA Live 15
    • Need for Speed: Rivals
    • NHL 15
    • Peggle 2
    • Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare
    • Titanfall
    • Early Access to Battlefront (Main reason I want to get EA Access haha)

Garden Warfare is great fun for kids as well as racing and sport games!

    Hope this helps :)

$449 for a 500gb with Kinect, and the Assassin's Creed games

$40 for 12 months EA Access

So sorta gonna depend, is he a soccer guy or is he a killer :P

(And yes I know, 500gb vs 1TB but not expensive for external drives once the 500gb fills up)

      • I got Kinect and wouldn't recommend it. Since Microsoft stopped exclusively making Kinect bundles, it is receiving very limited games.

Could sell FIFA 16 for ~$50 and buy the Assassins Creed Games too.

Again depends on what games he is into :)

      • So sorta gonna depend, is he a soccer guy or is he a killer :P

        Aren't those the same thing?

        Heheheheherecentnewseventsheheheheheh

  • I can't even think of any games on Xbox One that are suitable for an 8 year old. Forza and Fifa? They're pandering to the 'dudebro' market with the console. Which is good, because those guys have the mind of an 8 year old so the games are never very difficult.

But yeah, what ShamelessBargains said is the best one going. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/216523

    • Your comment contradicts itself: You say there arnt any games for 8 year olds than state that the market they are catering for has the mind of an 8 year old and hence games are made easy for them.

      • +1

Not really… The games could contain R18 content but still be easy enough for an 8 y.o. to pick up and play… doesn't mean it is for an 8 y.o.

        • I see, arnt these consoles meant to have some kind of parental lock? Do they have such a feature?

        • @Zylam Marex: Don't own a XB1 so not too sure, but if you were looking for a console for kids… Wii U might be better.

        • @ProjectZero:

I see, yea I've been looking at the wiiu but to all accounts everyone seems to be holding off for the next console that I've heard people say is coming some time next year. There seems to be void for kids in terms of gaming.

        • +1

@Zylam Marex: Not really, as technology becomes cheaper, most parents are getting tablets and ipads for their children as it is more of a multi function platform when compared to dedicated gaming systems.

Of course this means that children these days are moving towards mobile gaming and so I don't believe there is a void… merely a switch in the medium children play games.

        • @ProjectZero:

A yes, I totally forgot about mobile gaming. I fully agree, mobile gaming is where the kids attention is now.

      • That's what it looks like on the surface level. But I mean that children shouldn't really be playing CoD, Ryse, or Dead Rising, games with those violent, racist, blind patriotism themes.
And adults shouldn't be playing games where the idea of "guiding the player" is constantly taking control away from them, slamming 12 indicators on the screen to make sure they can't POSSIBLY forget or get distracted from what they're supposed to be doing. Not to mention the fact that regenerating health was put in every game ever to make it easier for the dudebros. Kinda kills my experience but hey, why would I care about every single videogame in the AAA industry melding into the one big sandbox action game?

        • I see, I was under the impression this is what all games have become, I think kids want to play these games as their friends have similar ones. There appears to be a void in terms of kids gaming as everyone is saying to hold off on the wiiu which they say has very weak support and a new Nintendo console is coming out soon I've heard. I'm not too sure but i think in terms of values and support the Xbox One is a good pick for kids. I'll look into the child lock, I think It does exist.

Also I've heard there are plenty of indie games suitable for kids on the Xbox One.

        • @Zylam Marex: If indie games are what you want, the PS4 is better, with a larger catalog of Indie games like Octodad.

Of course, I'd suggest a PC over both of them, because they offer very little in terms of exclusive or a variety of games when compared to the PC or Wii-U. Of course, if you like sandbox games, THE SAME sanbox game over and over (clearing bases, collecting collectibles in those bases, climbing towers to find bases to clear, and unlocking upgrades to clear bases better. With mid - late 20s single white protagonist with a deep gruff voice. This defines almost every next generation videogame) then the PS4 and the Xbone are the right platform for you.

  • I think best deal in terms of price for the console alone and a game is perhaps this one: Xbox One MCC Console Bundle $378. However you'd need to grab an extra controller, I think they are about 68ish. You're looking at 446.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/216653

However it's a 500GB and comes with only one game (the one game has 4 in it).

Otherwise I'd say the best bundle is the one shameless posted above, it's 1TB but at 449 with one controller.

  • The deal ShamelessBargains posted is the best deal.

FIFA, FORZA and other sports games are fine for kids.

Whether the OP wants to buy Halo5, COD etc for their 8yo is up to them not the internet.

There is a new Guitar Hero out as well.

You should also grab Halo 5. Trust me it isn't that bad and the story line is normally fantastic.

    • How can you possibly know that about Halo if it's not even out yet? 343's only other attempt at a Halo game was a disappointing effort at best. If they end the game with a quick time event again, I officially give up on 343 and Halo as a whole. Mashing A a bunch is not a boss fight. It's not testing everything we've learned and honed through hours of gameplay; it's to make sure we're still awake after they expected to wow us by putting robots in a science fiction game and expecting applause.

Keith David Alien is back in Halo 5 though, so it's already gotten a 9 from me. How'd you get the beans above the frank?

      (EDIT) I now realize when you said "It isn't that bad", you were talking about the level of 'violence', rather than the quality of the game. So now I feel like a jerk. ;_;

Yes I was referring to the level of violence in Halo… I'm glad you edited it because that part of the comment didn't come up in my email notification. But all good…

I didn't play Halo 4 but the campaign in Halo 3 was excellent.

I am a Playstation fan so my knowledge about Halo isn't very good only that the campaign is about 1000x better than COD…

OP don't forget to grab a XBOX live subscription so he can play online with his mates.

  • I would check ebgames current they have two 1TB system going for 499 with two games, one deal is halo The Master Chief Collection + fallout 4, the other is Forza 6 + Fallout. but check here other deals going https://ebgames.com.au/xbox-one/console-hardware/any/any/any…

  • Thanks everyone.
Unless something pops up this week it looks like FIFA deal at JB could be the one.
