Dendy Cinemas - Back to 1989 Prices $6.60 Per Person

760

Just found this while going through Canberra Times. Dendy Cinemas are bringing the tickets down to $6.60 as they were in 1989. On Dendy's website it says:

Back to 1989 Prices. In honour of back to the future, we're taking prices back to what they were in 1989. You'll pay the retro ticket price of $6.60 for all Sundate sessions on October 25
T&Cs
Offer only available on Sunday October 25 after 5pm, excludes group bookings, special events, previews, premieres, 3D sessions, Dendy Lounge and Dendy Premium sessions and not to be used in conjunction with any other offer.

I think there are a couple of good movies showing at the moment, so it is worth a try..

Dendy Cinemas are present in Canberra, Brisbane & Sydney.

  • That's pretty cool!

So is the significance that BTTF 2 was released in 1989? I would have thought the more significant date would have been 1985 for this promo?

    • +2

They didn't travel to 2015 in BTTF1 though.

  • By this I think they have to bring the price even lower!!

  • Probably ok if you live in Brisbane, Sydney or Canberra.

    • best prices in Canberra, for a pretty good cinema.

EVENT is old, Palace Electric is too small and Limelight is in Tuggernong. Only Hoyts compares and the pricing for that is absurd.

      • +2

Can often get Hoyts tickets for cheap at Costco, they are there at the moment. Was under $10 a ticket.

At the moment, Groupon has 15% off coupon which makes their tickets $8.50.

Sunday day sessions must be good earners seeing as sessions prior to 5pm are excluded from the offer.

Not bad. Shame there's nothing really good out at the moment.

      Huh?

The Martian, Bridge of Spies, Crimson Peak

      That's a pretty good trio.

I remember 1997/98 Tight-ass Tuesdays at Hoyts or Village was $6 for a movie.. A McD Quarter Pounder / Fillet-o-fish meal was $3.95. Cheap date night with my GF (ala Wife) was $20 with change. haha..

  • They're scamming themselves. $6.6 in 1989 with inflation is now $13.08…

They noob. Thanks though for the good deal.

    • No they're not, they normally charge $21.20…

      • +1

Holy shit, do people really pay over $20 to see a movie? I'm glad we have Cineplex in Brisbane…

  • +1

Cineplex has $8.50 tickets everyday and cheap days are like $7

  • +1

I'm pretty sure that in 1989, tickets to the cinema were actually lower than $6.60? That would have been for a premo city cinema that price!

    • +1

Yeah they were, average prices were more like $4.50-$5.00, $6+ was the mug's price.

      • +1

Also they didn't have the price as $6.60 to include a GST ;)

  • +2

Dumeresq Street Cinemas in Campbelltown NSW are $6.50 everyday

  • can not book in advance?

    • Seems to be a problem with the site - I just tried booking and was going to be charged full price so I bailed

  • Great scott!

  • Whaat no Melbourne :(

  • This is why dendy is much more popular than event, they're cheaper than events rip off prices.

    • i stock up on those $30 FOR $40 worth of giftcards each year
then use telstra's $11 tickets to book them and pay witht he gift cards

      about $7.50-$8 a ticket
      so not that bad

where it (profanity) gets me is the vmax and 3d surchages

But their candy and snack shop are at 2034 prices

  • In July tickets were only $5 at the most modern cinemas in Saigon … ahh can't wait to get back there

Also large popcorn and 2 large drinks $5

What we need is fuel prices to be back in the 1989's

  • Auckland used to have a Nickelodeon in mission beach and it was a nickel… 5 cents. (We're talking early 70's)

    • +2

and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Gimme five bees for a quarter," you'd say

1989? You'll be hearing from Taylor Swift's lawyers.
