  • when do you pay for it? are you earn higher than the threshold?

    • +1

You don't pay for it - it's not Vet Fee Help. No debt.

  • Is there a better link than the one up there? It just goes to the logo.

    • +1

      Sorry, fixed!

  • I had tertiary degree but not in australia. Am i qualified and Can i enroll for govt funding?

    • +1

As long as it is no recognised in Australia? Then sure!

  • +5

This is not a deal, it's just marketing. Plenty of courses out there are govt funded.

    • +3

^ but not with the student contribution fee's covered.

  • Vic resident only. Bummer.

    • Sorry bud!

      • Is this a regular VIC thing? I remember seeing something similar to this a while back - NSW never seems to have this at all..

        • There is the Smart and Skilled program in NSW.

          https://smartandskilled.nsw.gov.au/are-you-eligible

We can only deliver funded training through an employer - but there are other training providers that can do it direct to public? Hope this help?

        • @batesy15: If I am in Perth currently for work, but still have my place in Melbourne, am I eligible if I use my Melbourne address?

        • @Tiggrrrrr: Certainly are. As long as you have proof of address - such as a bill, or your drivers licence with a vic address on it? Should be fine.

  • yep, every 6 weeks.

  • Sorry, I'm tired and not really understanding what I'm reading at the moment haha, but I have my VCE and am finishing uni shortly getting a bachelor's degree. Feel like this would look good to a future employer. Am I eligible?

    • As long as you enrol before you finish your bachelor, you certainly are!

      • +1

To easy, I'll enrol now! I finish in November haha. Free is free after all :D

  • if I already work full time and im not a pensioner, how likely will I get the scholarship?

    • -1

Don't think the courses would be really appropriate for pensioners?

Here are the possible selections you could make.

      Financial hardship
      Unemployed
      Full time student
      Natural disaster hardship
Disability impacting on ability to pay enrolment fee

      • the only one applicable for me would be financial hardship, but since I work full time would it be hard to justify the "hardship"?

        • I work full time and I haven't got the spare 1k for a course. shrugs up to you how you want to look at it bud.

  • Do SA ever offer any of these free?
Want to do the FNS40215 – Certificate IV in Bookkeeping but am broke at the moment and not working.
    Thanks

    • Free? Not totally sure, but have a look at SA's program.

      • Thanks.

I do work part time as a tax consultant, but that is only 3-4 months work per year.
I was thinking of the Cert IV in bookkeeping to assist my in finding work in the other 8 months.
I do not come from a finance background, but a technical engineering role.
I have been a tax consultant for about 4 years now.
Would there be any suggested courses to do BEFORE the Cert IV in bookkeeping to ensure that I can complete it?

        Thanks

        • Hey Bud.

          http://www.tpb.gov.au/TPB/Qualifications_and_experience/Qual…

Above is the requirements to be a bas agent.

Now, with the new training packages released this year, you only have to do 1 additional unit on top of the Bookkeeping to get a Cert IV in Accounting, which with the prerequisite experience, you can become a TAX (ie, do tax returns for a fee ) agent as well.

If you have already got experience, then no I wouldn't suggest anything else official certificate wise. However, further help you get a job - get some MYOB and Xero certifications.

        • @batesy15:

          Thanks

        • @macfanboy:

Assuming that I have to pay full price for the Cert IV in bookkeeping, are there places that are more inexpensive than others?

        • @macfanboy: Hell yea. Some RTO's prices are retarded.
http://www.compareeducationcosts.com.au/ is a good site to compare. We're not on it, but for ballpark, we're $1650 for fee for service.

        • @batesy15:

Thanks, so $1490 that inspired offered me was a good price?

        • @macfanboy: Yea that's pretty bloody reasonable, but just check the units? http://www.nationaltraining.edu.au/certificate-iv-in-bookkee…

And make sure it's the 2015 version FNS40215 – Certificate IV in Bookkeeping

Reason being they won't be able to teach it past 2016 March because it's a superseded qualification.

        • @batesy15:

          Thanks

          It finished yesterday :(

          the accounting one was FNS40611

          Pity I can't relocate to victoria….my wife and kids wouldn't like it…:)

        • @macfanboy: Yea that's the 2011 version, out of date. Bugger.

        • @batesy15:

They say this qualification is superseded by the FNS40615 Certificate IV in Accounting.
          What difference does it make?

        • @macfanboy: a few things
          1. It's an older qualification, not useful to get a job ( I'd imagine that it's the whole point )
          2. They can't teach it past March 2016 so you won't have a lot of time to finish it.

  • +3

I do qualify, I called Dale and had a chat and this is great for me, so I have signed up.

BSB41015 – Certificate IV in Human Resources
BSB42015 – Certificate IV in Leadership and Management

I will now refer to it as the Mr. Bossypants double cert

He said that two of the modules overlap, so instead of 22 there will be 20.

Edit: That was quick, I am already approved. It's head down bum up time

    • +2

      Good luck for your studies

  • Any reason I can't apply for both Accounting and Book-keeping? I wanted both but now I'm trying to decide between them…

    • Yea there is - Bookkeeping is accounting minus 1 unit.

If you are eligible for funding, you are better off doing 2 different courses, Bookkeeping and something else, and just paying for the extra units. Otherwise you'll just waste the funding for 1 unit.

      • Isn't the funding the same for Bookkeeping and Accounting? Shouldn't I do either just Accounting (and save my other possible govfunding course for another time) or do Acc & another course? This is confusing me :S

EDIT: Actually I just counted and they both have the same number of units, just some differing units between them.

        • Sorry mate.

Bookkeeping and Accounting are two different courses.

You can do Bookkeeping + 1 paid unit to get a dual cert IV.

As it is a the moment, we can't do Accounting + 1 unit to get the dual cert IV as we are still waiting for the 2011 version of accounting to be upgraded to the 2015 version ( Bookkeeping has already been upgraded)

        • @batesy15: Hmmm okay. So I can apply for Bookkeeping and (as an example) Leadership&Mngmt, but then also do the +1 unit for BK dual cert? If yes, would the dual cert be BK/ACC? And when would I apply for the extra unit?

        • @necromen13: You can certainly do that. You'd just pay for the extra unit whenever you want to? Just depends on when you wan to do it - at the end of the course more than likely? Or during the middle so once you've completed all your units you get 3 x Cert IV's?

        • @batesy15: Well I crossed my fingers and applied, here's hoping :) Thanks for all your help :)

  • +2

14 approvals so far! Running around like a chook with my head cut off but keep them coming!

    • Hey Dale.

I've put in for my Cert IV in Work Health & Safety and Training & Assessment

We spoke earlier via chat, just wanted to say thanks again for clearing up a few things.

      Cheers,

      • No worries, pleasure buddy.

        • Awesome, thanks heaps for the quick approval.

          Exciting times ahead!

  • Hi Dale,

I understand it's a 12 month commitment, but what are the "contact hours" likely to be?

    Thanks,

    • Hey Psy,

Depends on the course. But invariably I'd say minimum 2 hours per week, max 10. Depends on the project, there are bigger units than others.

      • Hi Dale, what do the webinars involve? And is there any penalty involved in dropping out if for whatever reason we can't continue?

  • +4

It's ashame that our taxpayer dollars are being thrown at these private providers who try to get every Tom, Dick and Harry enrolled to courses they may not even be interested in. In the meantime the TAFE systems are being screwed and shut down.

    • I'm not bending these people's arms back to study mate.

And it's a shame that the TAFE sector never showed any flexibility and initiative, otherwise there would be no justification for us to exist.

    • +3

I want to plus you a million.

    • Then we need to get every Tony, Malcolm and Joe out of our taxpayer's dollars.

      …hmm… 2 out of 3 ain't bad at all!

  • Hi Dale,

Is this course online, face to face, or combined? I am interested in doing with cert IV in bookkeeping. Thanks.

    • Hey mate,

Online, with webinars weekly or fortnightly depending on demand.

  • @batesy15 Hey thanks Dale for the info. As I hold a Diploma of Business Management, I must pay full fee to undertake Cert IV TAA - yeah? I am interested in TAA to add to my existing skills for casual work.

    • Yup! Sorry mate, it'd be fee for service.

      • Thought so - tks anyways :)

  • Anyone ever done any of these courses & found that they could actually get a job with these qualifications? Even if I don't pay (or have a HECS/HELP debt) I am worried I will put in time & effort & then find that I still can't get a job at the end of it.

  • +1

Ah, this is that scam I read about in the newspaper where dodgy 'training' organisations provide really bad courses, and we all pay for them through gubermint funding. No-one ends up properly trained because the course are short, badly run and lacking in content, but participants get a certificate to con prospective employers, and the training organisation owners end up stimulating the economy by buying very expensive imported cars.

    • I think you may be confusing this with something else.

In most states, if you don't have a lot of qualifications the govt will cover a certain amount for you to get one of a select group of qualifications, working or not. For example, i previously worked in a role and my employer arranged for a bunch of us to do a cert 4 in financial services and the govt picked up the $1500 tab because none of us had degrees. Our employer then paid for the additional units to turn those into Diplomas. This is not a scam but a govt initiative to have higher skilled more qualified people in teh workforce. We aren't going to have coal to dig up forever ;)

There are other RTO's taking advantage of the FEE HELP system charging people $30k+ and luring them in with free ipads and free laptops etc.. for what is really a $1500 course (i.e the ones you see advertised on facebook). THIS is the scam.

    • Mate, I saw those on a current affair, targeti disabled people and pensioners and that is the first thing I asked Dale on the phone. Whilst the Moodle platform they are using is terrible from a UI/UX perspective - too much white space, the text is too small and it is full of stock photos…… The first module is asking me to write a 2500-3000 word essay and another 1500 words to answer questions. That is a decent amount of work when you times it by 10 or 12 to complete each cert. I think I will be properly trained in as much as I will have to read all the course material to be able to write all that content.

      • Just a general comment not related to this organisation - I think the problem, highlighted by the tv segment, is that without the government doing proper quality checks, any of the private educational businesses can pass a student (either assisting them with work or just passing them regardless) and get the money from the govt. Businesses (of the educational institution type) are in it for profit (understandably) not for good will. Sometimes the students don't complain because even though they don't don't come out the relevant skills it can be an easier way to get a visa (especially if the organisation employs them through another business they own).

  • Confirming that there are no fees associated if we don't finish by the 12 months or cancel?

    • Can confirm.

Can apply for an extension if you don't finish.

  • @batesy15 So you said that "You must not hold any Australian qualification at the same level or higher than the qualification you are enrolling into". So if I have a degree in, say, Microbiology, I can still enroll in any of those, since my quals are in a completely different field?
