NBN Goes HIGH TECH by using copper.

NBN purchases 1,800,000 metres of … copper. This fit's in with the NBN's pathetic target of providing Australians with ADSL internet speeds but charging people a lot more for it. The only entity that this helps is Telstra: Sauce: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/07/23/carrier_club_slams_t…

Unfortunately the fool that did this is now Australia's Prime Minister but that's the calibre of leader we now have.

Australia needs to change. Tradesman labour is seriously over priced, due to the so called certification, licensing blahblahblah. Lots of industry protection are just over done and dragging us backward.

This year China only took 2 months to complete rolling out FTTP at 100mbps in most major cities. No one mentioned about the costs. It's definitely not expensive.

This country will be over taken by most of the developing countries in a decade. People are so short sighted here. When we had the good time to sell our dirt to Chinese, earning big surplus, most of people never thought about the rainy days. Now mining is gone, manufacturing is gone, Australian people are indulging in frothing up housing price. Oh well, we got to pay back for all these stupidity sooner or later.

  • I'm just happy that my note 2 has better speeds then my tgp adsl2 and not by a little I mean almost 4 times faster.

Test show I can peak at around 1.6mbps so far with 2 bar signal strength as apposed to 450kbps with adsl2 and I'm about 3 km from exchange.

On 100mbit fibre, was paying more for less with 10mbit ADSL +$30/month to Telstra just for the line (no home phone connected).

Internet no longer drops out when it rains, more than 2 people in the family can do things on the net without screaming at each other and best of all everything is completed much faster online including backups to the cloud.

Finally us people in regional cities have decent internet.

    Happy taxpayer.

the comments that blame the liberals or the labor party are just laughable. don't ever think for a moment that any body of government is focused on serving it's people, apart from places like norway or denmark, everywhere else is just a corrupt cesspool of muppets.

  • Think you guys still don't get why ministers want the power.

They know fibre is better and bla bla bla. Their only concern is how to get the money in their pocket.

Say their friend (provider) is offering 1.8M of copper for $50M. $30M is the actual cost. $10M in each pocket.

They have no ally in the fibre world. So means copper is the best and only option.

  • Is this thread dead? Should bring it up for continuous discussion. Our smart doctorate PM is now planning jacking up GST for 50% more. Geeze, does he have basic understanding of economy?
