Best/Cheapest Place to Buy SLA Battery

Is there a best/cheap place to buy a 12V, 19Ah SLA battery for a portable jump starter? The one in it is sitting at 13V, after being charged about a week ago. I believe that's ok, but I'm not 100% sure.

It's 4 or 5 years old. Last time I used it, it didn't last very long cranking a car. Even if it is ok, I still want to find a replacement source before it dies.

The original battery is a FM12170B made by www.sealake.com

12V, 18Ah
181 long
77 wide
167 high

But does have some extra room inside.

  • batteryworld, take the whole unit to them and they will test it and find a replacement if needed.

  • 12.6 volts usually indicates a healthy battery, but you can get higher readings around 13v with modern technology batteries like AGM (glass mat, gel cells etc.) Make sure you let the battery rest for 3-4 hours or more before taking the voltage so it can settle. They are higher if they just come off a charger. These are no-load readings.

A lot of jump starters often use two 8 or 9Ah batteries wired in parallel to give twice the capacity, due to the common supply of that size, which also makes them cheap. It will be about the same size as your battery and might explain why there is a little bit more space in your charger. Just make sure you get the ones with automotive terminals for fast/high current discharge, not the F2 "spade" terminals found on long life/slow discharge batteries used for electronics like alarm panels.
