Your 'average' Price for Raw Meat

Hi all,
I'm trying to shop smarter and decide my dinner / lunches based on the specials.

My question is what price do you consider average for the following, and what price do you consider 'buy it now' due to it being so cheap?

Beef mince:
Beef (Steak):
Lamb mince:
Lamb (chops):
Chicken (breast/thigh):
Fish(fillet):
Pork mince:
Kangaroo (steak):

  • This is all I buy on a frequent basis, I don't have a buy it now price, But I refuse to pay more if they go up. Also included the best deal I've had from my Butcher.

Beef mince: 2kgs for $14 (Best Price 2kgs for $12)
Chicken (breast): $8 a kg (Best Price 2kgs for $12)
Pork Ribs (American Style): $20 a kg (Best Price 2kgs for $22)
Lean Sausages: $7 a kg (Best Price 2kgs for $10)
    Diced Beef (Stir-fry): $16 a kg (Best Price 2kgs for $25)

  • Beef mince: $8 for 2 kgs
Beef (Steak): $19 kg rump $23 kg porter house
Lamb (chops): $14 kg mid loin
Chicken (breast/thigh): $8 kg - (prices for thigh and breast are about equal now days)

  • Are you going to Butchers for these? Or is this from Supermarkets?

    • A bit of both really.
I only buy meat from Coles these days a few butchers.

      • I live in the CBD (Carlton). Any butchers you would recommend?

    • check out vic market. also clearance specials an hour or two before close on saturdays.

  • The only meat I buy is Mt Barker (WA brand I think) chicken sausages from coles: $11/kg. This price seems to be on the low side for other chicken sausages I've bought.

  • Don't forget Turkey mince.

  • +2

Find yourself a butcher in a predominately asian suburb, with high turnover and 3 deep at the counter. Regular prices are more like Colesworth special prices.

I've got one of these butchers. quality is sometimes suspect on the better cuts of meat.i usually only buy chicken or mince from them.

  • Porterhouse $12/kg for a log
Chicken breast skin off $11/kg (3kg minimum)
    chicken drumlets $4 or $5 /kg
    Chicken mince $9/kg
